I couldn't agree with you more on Otto. Could you imagine if he had stayed one more year? I see the same scenario playing out for Cope if he leaves.

From Zagsblog:
"Brewster (N.H.) Academy power forward Taurean Thompson took in several schools over the weekend.
The 6-foot-10 Thompson stopped by Seton Hall on Friday for practice and then attended Georgetown's 77-47 blowout of Bryant on Saturday at the Verizon Center. Thompson and his mother, Sherese, also took a brief tour of campus.
Thompson said last week at the National Prep Showcase that Seton Hall and Syracuse were working the hardest for his services. Since then, both Pittsburgh and N.C. State have offered and he visited Georgetown. Thompson plans to sign in the spring."

Georgetown better work a tad bit harder against the rest of the schools who're in contention for his services.

We haven't had a player named Thompson for a few years. We're due.

Yeah we do have alot of players of his skillset. But at 6'9/6'10, a guy who has a pretty shooting stroke and plays with some nastiness is never something you dont look to go after. But to keep it real there are not a ton of minutes jumping off the page for any recruit even if Copeland and Peak leave. If Copeland and LJ leave, there are definitely minutes available even with Akoy coming back. Hayes and DSR will be gone as well. I agree that we're more in need of guard depth but a guy that size with that skillset you grab if you can. At worst, he can compete for minutes and will, likely, get a good amount. Also, he gets to match up in practice with guys similar to him which, to this point, is probably not the norm for him. I think it's OK to assume that you're losing one of LJ or Isaac after this year. At least, you'd be sort of crazy not to have that in the back of your mind. And possibly losing both changes the complexion of this team completely. I agree. I think it's similar to the old NFL draft debate; do you take best player available or the one that best fits your current need. Although I'd really like another guard in 2016, I'd still take him over a less talented guard. And as we know, what looks like our biggest need right now might not be a year from now. If he comes here he'll have a lot of competition for minutes, but he really does look like a great fit for our offense.

If he's good enough, you simply go after talent.
Hayes will be gone, and there's a decent chance Copeland will, too (decent chance he won't). But that means two rotation players are coming out of the down low section (even if Thompson isn't playing center, Derrickson or Mourning will likely need to back up Govan ... which means more minutes available at the 4/3 areas).
I'm not really sure why we were never on '16 bigs with only Govan truly anywhere near a big ... perhaps we are fully committing to NBA-style "small ball"?

Totally agree that you bring him in if you think he's a talented player, which he looks to be from the video clips and the teams that are recruiting him. I don't see Govan as a 4-year player, so getting a 6'10" big in the class behind Govan seems like a wise move.

SFHoya 99 I fully agree with your statement here, " I'm not really sure why we were never on '16 bigs with only Govan truly anywhere near a big ... perhaps we are fully committing to NBA-style "small ball". Maybe JTIII intends on speeding up the offense with Govan, Akoy, Mourning, and Derrickson by playing small like you said. But in my personal opinion I say we still need another 7 footer to replace Hayes. Hayes brings a whole different dimension to the defensive end of the court with his size. Guards for 2016 we're the priority and still are, I really hope we can pull another small (speedy PG) or another 6'6 / 6'7 SF that can defend three positions (SG,SF,PF) like Kaleb to fill Cameron's spot when he leaves in 2017.

5. Taurean Thompson, PF, Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Prep Where he’s going: He is looking at Syracuse, Providence, Xavier, Seton Hall, N.C. State and others. What he did: Thompson is making a case for a move up from his current No. 84 ranking in the class of 2016. A four who likes to face the rim, he can shoot jumpers all day long from 12 to 17 feet and he’s a load to stop for opposing bigs if he catches the ball on the move. He finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks. basketballrecruiting.n.rivals.com/news/hoophall-top-performers

Hoping this kid ends up in the Big East, from ESPN:
Taurean Thompson (No. 86) is in a similar position. He’s been to Syracuse, while Seton Hall, Providence and NC State are involved. His mother attends some Seton Hall games -- she still lives in New Jersey -- but he’s only been to Syracuse and Xavier.
Syracuse was the presumed leader in the fall, but the Orange’s scholarship situation made it unclear whether they would have room for him. However, the program had its scholarship penalty reduced by one earlier this season and could take Thompson at any time.
He’s not ready to make a decision, though.
“Probably in the spring,” Thompson said. “I got three more officials.”

According to blueandgray he's on campus right now. Hopefully Isaac and Marcus are showing him around and solidifying that Brewster connection!

Would be a big-time get this late in the recruiting process.
