Great news! With Paul and now Tre coming back, it makes me feel even more sorry for Akoy. Here's to hoping that he's on the path to a full recovery. Thanks for the update, Dan.

Great news about Tre. As others know I was very concerned about his health. Glad to see my fears were not realized.

Watched a lot of bball this week. Houston, we have a problem. Three point shooting has become just HUGE! Unless we can do a better job of making threes -- yes DSR I mean you -- and a much better job of defending the three -- Copeland/Derrickson/et al. -- we will be very vulnerable to many of the teams on our schedule (as well as those cupcakes who have a hot three point shooter, e.g. Radford). Anyone watch Syracuse lately? Cooney and Gbinije are frightening. I love the back cuts and the deliberate half court offense but working for 20-25 seconds to get 2 and then seeing opponents just shower you with 3's in 10-15 seconds is crushing. We have got to shut Syracuse 3 point shooters down and take at least 20 threes and make at least 40% of them otherwise we will be playing catch-up the whole game.

I'm not disagreeing but Syracuse is overly dependent on the 3 ball. It will actually help us to defend them. They don't have the size to do big damage down low so we would probably be served well by going smaller and go hard on the perimeter. Almost the polar opposite of today's game. Gbinije has been out of his mind good. Lydon concerns me way more than Cooney.

Agree. Play smaller and swarm. But this is now a resume building game since Syracuse is ranked 13 in latest CBS top 25 poll.

In fact, we may only have two non-shooters on this team, literally have like 9 guys that are going to or already have recorded 40% 3pt shooting seasons

Season so far? We have played pretty darn well and far better than our 2-3 record might suggest. Now we get Campbell back and White for his second game. Tuesday will provide a great opportunity to get them both up to speed v UMES, in preparation for a pretty big game v. 'Cuse - at home - on Sat. Given our tough close losses to UMD and Duke, the Cuse game is our chance to show how far this team has come. Cuse is 6-0, with wins over two Top 25 teams in their last two games. Wednesday they take on Wisconsin, another bench mark before our big rivalry game.
It's early in the season, but I like the way our Hoyas have been playing so far - although we all know the D needs to catch up with the O. Great to see MD grabbing those boards Sat. We have not yet had contributions from White and Campbell, and DSR is due for a breakout. Saturday will be a true measuring stick. Can't wait to see our guys on the floor in a packed arena laying the smack down on the Orangemen.

I'm not that worried about our three point shooting. It will slump in some games, but there's nothing to be done about that. The team does need to learn how to create them better -- more inside out, more drive and dish. But that can come. We have the shooters.
Defending the three, though? it still seems like we relax and miss to many assignments.

Is this a gray-out game? Games againdt Syracuse should always be gray-outs.

Actually, we are shooting 36.4% from three, #112 in the nation. Going into Bryant, we were at 40.7%.

Normally you don't want to live or die by that shot but there seem to be more and more guys coming out of high school that are just pure 3 point shooters.

Last year, our 3PA/FGA was 32.5%, #226. This year, that percentage is 40.9%, #69 in the nation. We appear already to have increased the threes significantly as you call for. Rather than shoot more threes, I'd like to see DSR hit more threes.

I thought this was a thread about UMES, so don't jump ahead to Syracuse. I don't think the baby Twerps will pull a Radford, but let's keep our priorities straight - one game at a time.

UMES should be a great chance for us to continue to integrate the frosh, work on fundamentals (rebounding, TO, passing, FTs), and focus on playing hard against an unheralded opponent. Ken Pom has UMES at 291st on O and 327th on D. Sagarin has UMES at 322. This is a classic early season MEAC game. Let's make the most of it.
FWIW, Pom also has us as 348th (out of 351) in Luck. To the surprise of no one.
