Just saw the Vandy-St John's score, 92-55 Vandy. Are the Johnnies that bad? I see it was their first loss.

Just from looking at their roster, Vanderbilt has three 7 footers (2 starters, plus a backup who gets 17 mintues). Then they have 3 small forwards who are 6-9, 6-6, 6-7.
They dominated St. Johns on the boards 49-26 (23 point rebounding margin).
They are huge. They can roll out a line up with a 7-0 center, 7-1 power forward and then either a 6-9 or 6-6 small forward.

Lovett is still not cleared by the NCAA. I imagine he would make them less terrible. I watched the end of the SJU/Rutgers game the other night and didn't recognize one SJU player. Crazy turnover last year to this.

Vanderbilt also has a 6-10 235 lbs 4 star freshman center from Haiti, Djery Baptiste. Hasn't played yet but supposedly Dwight Howard like.
So that gives them 4 bigs plus 3 6-9/6-7/6-6 small forwards

Good passing and good shooting team with legit size... That's going to be a tough out in the tournament. Nobody is going to want to face them. They can throw up a bunch of 3s and any 3s that miss they can gobble them back up with their size.

hoyapac is right, St.John's has a whole new roster. They have 2 freshman who should be very good in the near future in Sima(a Center) and Moussini(sp)(a guard who may lead them in scoring). Vanderbilt also hit about 13 three-pointers in this game, it's seems as if everyone on their roster is a dangerous 3-point shooter...A Vintage Stallings team!! Vanderbilt are going to be very good as some of you pointed out. St.John's catches a break(or bad luck) because Indiana was upset by Wake Forest in that tournament(Maui??), so Vanderbilt plays Wake Forest in the next round, not Indiana like everyone thought. It can be a break for St.John's because if they can upset Indiana, it would be a big win for the conference. Even if Indiana goes 1-2 in this tournament, they should still be a very good team by March.

I think a bunch of Hoosiers must have had the flu against Wake. It is a long plane trip to Hawai'i and all.

I've always liked Vandy's program. I hope they are able to knock off the pro team from Lexington this year.

Vandy is very good. Watched the Wake game and they did not shoot that well and still dominated Wake by 20. Their length definitely cause problems and alters people's shots. On top of the 3 7 foots, 6-10 Dwight Howard like freshman and the 6-9/6-7/6-6 small forwards they have a 6-3 guard with a 6-10 wing span.
The Kentucky games should be very interesting.

St. John's is going to be the worst major conference team this season. They lost everything, and I believe they have only 7 scholarship players. They lost to st. thomas aquinas college by 32 in an exhibition a couple weeks ago.

First "big" win for Mullin. What an embarrassment for Rutgers.

Yeah, the bar for worst major conference team is pretty low. Remember Northwestern has still never made the NCAA tourney. Even in the Big East, St. John's may get a run for that title from DePaul although they did break ground on the downtown stadium where they are going to play in the future. That may ultimately help DePaul climb out of the BE cellar eventually! Agree Vandy looks to have all the pieces to be pretty good. Still, just having 3 7+ footers doesn't always translate to greatness. Just ask FSU. On the other hand Vandy seems to have lot of good pieces and Stallings is and has been a very good coach much like JTIII and Bo Ryan fielding consistenty good if not always great teams!
