Why is it so significant that Obama was on foreign soil when he made the comment? It's 2015. If these comments were made here, they could just as easily be disseminated abroad. After all, nobody here was in Asia to hear them firsthand, yet here we are talking about them.

It matters because he is standing on foreign soil, representing this country. Even in this instant news, Internet age, the President of the United States of America should never speak ill of his own country while abroad.
If you don't get that, you can't be helped.
