I'm curious, why are people optimistic that we're going to win over the third best team in the country if we can't even beat Redford? I get that Maryland might be overrated, but I don't know if three days are enough to fix the fundamental problems we had on Saturday. Well, the first question is WHY the Hoyas lost. Was it because they suck or didn't give good effort? Therein lies the answer to your question...

I just want us to answer the bell and fight like maniacs. No give EVER. All our players should feel insulted every time they score, and bring it right back on the other end.
No easy layups. Nothing uncontested. Fight for every board and loose ball. I want Michael Graham meets Perry McDonald meets Boubacar Aw meets PE Jr. meets Jabril Trawick- combined in every play.

I predict Bradley Hayes gets another double-double.

We have zero players who match those profiles, or even come within shouting distance. We get pushed around by Radford and FGCU, et al. What makes you think we will stand up to an actual big-time team? We may well give them a game tonight, but it won't be because of the brutish toughness that characterized our teams back in our glory days.

But perhaps getting knocked around early in the season will help us during BE play and beyond.

I am just saying what I desire as a fan, and what I am hoping for; not holding my breath, but I guess we'll see.
Unfortunately for my wife and kids, it might be a possibility that I will take on the persona of Graham-McDonald-Aw-Trawick while watching the telecast of this game...
Logging off to purchase more property insurance.

I admit I was a kid in the "glory days", so I did not see those teams first-hand and only have knowledge via watching old videos, however, it seems to me like the "brutish toughness" that Georgetown had during that era is something of the past that will never be repeated. I think if Georgetown tried to be that physical now, they'd be constantly whistled for fouls. It just wouldn't work with the way the game is today.

The game still rewards aggression. Go to the basket strong, draw fouls. Don't float at the 3 point line and jack 3's late in the clock. Play tough defense, actually try to stay in front of your man. Be mentally tough and say, they aren't scoring on me and challenge and compete. That's old school Hoya and can still work within the new rules. the brawls, well that's a different story.

But there was an intimidation factor that those teams had that this current program doesn't even attempt. Those teams were feared and hated, but hugely respected - I have never heard booing like I heard when they took the court for the 1987 BET final against Syracuse. It was glorious. There is no hate, not much respect, and certainly no fear afforded our current team.

Melo Trimble 72
Tre Campbell 63
Fun fact. Melo Trimble is 7-0 lifetime against Tre Campbell, dating back to their high school days.
