Princeton will host the meet Friday, Nov. 13. Both the men and women have good chances of moving on the the NCAA finals in Louisville. For automatic bids they each have to finish in the top 2. However, even if they do not they have chances at an at-large bid. I think to do that they should eennot finished less than 3rd or 4th. In the men's race it will probably be between the Hoyas and Nova and maybe one of the Ivies. For the women it should be between the Hoyas and Penn State. This will be an interesting meet especially for the men as they up the distance to 10k instead of the 8k (five miles) they have been running so far this year. Since it is longer, the recovery for the Nationals will be more difficult. The strategy might be to run well enough to finish in the top 3 or 4 and not necessarily win. The men have had a history of fading in the Nationals, so maybe conservative action will the prescribed method at Regionals. The women will be running the usual 6K.

The women are going to the NCAAs as they finished 2nd to Penn State, which is the exact regional rankings. Sam Nadel again did not run. Many injuries this year have held the women down out of the top 10.

In the women's race, the bad: Hoyas top runner was #9, the good: the Hoyas had a 24 s spread among the top five. Great team running for the Hoyas.

To borrow from Rich: Hoyas win, Hoyas win, Hoyas win!!! Even running 10K today, the Hoyas beat Nova, as Nova came in 3rd. The Hoyas had four in the top 10 with Jon Green leading the charge in 2nd (Jon is being recognized on the national level, as many are predicting him as a top 10 finished at NCAAs):
1. 44 GTWN (31:01.9 155:09.1 0:42.0) ==================== 1 2 313 Jonathan Green SO 30:41.6 2 7 314 Michael Lederhouse JR 30:58.2 3 8 309 Amos Bartelsmeyer SO 31:00.9 4 10 311 Scott Carpenter JR 31:04.8 5 17 307 Christian Alvarado FR 31:23.6 6 ( 30) 315 Connor Sheryak SO 31:41.2 7 ( 34) 312 Darren Fahy JR 31:44.0
2. 60 UPA (31:10.1 155:50.4 0:42.7) ==================== 1 4 400 Thomas Awad SR 30:49.5 2 6 408 Nicholas Tuck JR 30:54.6 3 12 405 Brendan Shearn JR 31:12.9 4 15 407 Brendan Smith SR 31:21.2 5 23 409 Ross Wilson SO 31:32.2 6 ( 28) 402 Patrick Hally SO 31:39.0 7 (102) 406 Clark Shurtleff SR 33:10.1
3. 67 VILL (31:02.2 155:11.0 1:30.9) ==================== 1 1 516 Patrick Tiernan JR 30:15.8 2 5 511 Robert Denault SR 30:50.9 3 9 519 Jordan Williamsz SR 31:02.2 4 13 518 Harry Warnick JR 31:15.4 5 39 512 Robert Hurlbut SR 31:46.7 6 ( 62) 513 Drake Johnston SO 32:23.3 7 ( 73) 515 Elliot Slade SO 32:37.0
4. 102 PRIN (31:28.9 157:24.4 0:11.0) ==================== 1 16 438 Jeremy Spiezio FR 31:21.2 2 19 434 Sam Berger SR 31:28.5 3 21 440 Michael Sublette SR 31:31.0 4 22 437 Brett Kelly SR 31:31.5 5 24 441 Steven Sum FR 31:32.2 6 ( 37) 436 Noah Kauppila SO 31:45.3 7 ( 40) 433 Wolfgang Beck SO 31:48.0
Again, as with the women, the spread was very tight at 42 s over the whole 10K. Michael and Amos are more middle distance runners, who have been coming up big at XC. Even 10K did not seem to bother them. The only drawback was Darren, as he usually finishes higher as he was just seventh man today. Look for him to bounce back at nationals.

Excellent! Great run by Lederhouse. I expected Green to be near the top but didn't think Lederhouse had that type of range. He's more of a middle distance guy so for him to run like that with the step up to 10K is fantastic.

Coach Bonsey expects Ahmed Bile to be back for Nationals and hopes Darren Fahy get untracked also at Nationals. I think the women with all the injuries this year are doing the best they can. Still unknown if Sam Nadel will run at Nationals. If she does, I am not sure she will have enough miles to make much of a difference. Thee freshman and sophomores have stepped up this year.
Now the Hoyas have four teams in the post season!

Would think Sam Nadel would redshirt--team would be pretty good again next yr if she and haley pierce are back + the freshman belt continues to improve a lot. If they got at least one high elite recruit they would certainly be top 10, maybe podium again. Given the lack of a true XC star, like an Emily Infeld, they probably wouldn't have a shot at the win. Definitely great job by coach and runners given the situation this yr with injuries. Using almost all mid distance runners they steadily improved to being a top team.. The XC improvement should help all these runners in their mid distance specialities in the indoor/outdoor season.
