Communication that went out today:
Dear Members of the Georgetown Community:
Beginning this week, the University will install a perimeter construction fencing around the Cooper Field construction site. This fencing is part of the project to replace the field’s bleachers with a permanent structure to include game-day locker rooms, concessions, restrooms and a press box, as well as landscape improvements.
As a result of the fence installation, the biggest impact will be longterm pedestrian detours along West Road and in front of Regents Hall. Please be aware of the following re-routing to the area surrounding the site. A map of the construction area is also attached to this message. Fencing will be installed along the north and west sides of Cooper Field. All of the fencing will include a screening material. The sidewalk on the east side from North Road to the pathway from Hariri to Yates will be fenced off. Pedestrians will be detoured to the west side via existing crosswalks. The fence will be in the center of the existing pathway south of Hariri, leaving about 12' on the north for pedestrians and fire access. The existing pathway from Harbin to Hariri will be closed. To go from Harbin to Hariri/Yates, pedestrians will need to use the pathway closest to Regents, then make a left onto the east-west pathway above. From start to completion, the fence installation will take about two weeks. When completed, the fencing work will totally separate the construction site from the adjacent areas in use.
We appreciate your patience during this construction period.
Sincerely, Robin Morey Vice President for Planning and Facilities Management

Fences and construction trailer have been/are going up, but no sign of digging yet.

Fences and construction trailer have been/are going up, but no sign of digging yet. Went on a tour of "new campus spaces" as part of reunion today. Per Patrick Amorosa, Georgetown Staff Architect, construction of the permanent bleachers is just awaiting building permits - they are ready to put shovels into ground as soon as the final paperwork approval comes through.

I recently heard that Cooper Field was again put on hold thanks to some permitting issues. Anyone know if there is any truth to this?

In the last two months, they added a dumpster this week, but that’s been the only evidence of any movement since they put up the fences and took the old home bleachers down.

PROJECT UPDATE (9/26/2018)
Cooper Field
Excavation work is underway for the Cooper Field project. The renovated field will include new bleachers and a permanent structure featuring game-day locker rooms, concessions, restrooms and a press box. This project will also feature landscape improvements in front of Hariri, Regents and along Tondorf Road. Pedestrian detours along West Road and in front of Regents Hall will be in place through the duration of the construction, and lighting on the field will be temporarily diminished. The project is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2019.

It's communicated as more about putting something on the ground rather than meeting the promises of the past.

Cooper Field Pics from Sept 26 & OCt 1: Not a lot of action yet if you have a 10-11 month construction window ahead of you. No concrete pilings, no rebar, just sand. And after all the broken promises on this effort, you just don't know.

And after all the broken promises on this effort, you just don't know. Excavation, foundation, and utilities are more time-consuming than vertical construction. Once things start going up, they go up pretty quickly, but it takes a good long while to get there.

I understand the frustration, DFW, but I don’t know how they could avoid temporarily diminishing the light in when building is going to be built exactly where the west side lights are now.

Do you think it will look better with them filling the back of the endzone with a Grassy Slope as I think is the Plan currently... OR Do you think it would look better if they built that up a bit with fill and then moved the Temp Bleachers from the Visitor Side to the back endzone?

As far as I can tell, the lights that were taken out were replaced (20 feet further back) within about a month.

Currently, it looks like they put in some pilings, and roughed out some of the internal spaces that will be on the ground level (one locker room, looks like), and I can't tell for sure, but i appears they've framed (and have started pouring concrete for) the back wall of the building/stands. Most of the work they've been doing appears to be infrastructure related: pile-driving, water/sewer lines, etc., but still waiting on most of the vertical aspects.
I'll try to take a closer look on one of my dog-walks through campus and see what else I can identify.
