For this to be coming from the Coach at the Top Ivy - I feel more confident that Gtown could survive as an Independent psudo Ivy filling the schedule with a number of long term home and away series (like signed with Columbia) across the majority of the Ivy teams - especially if the rumor of a new (Non-Embarassing) stadium comes true! That is if we are ever forced out of the Patirot by either vote or just inability to compete at the scholarship level.
Harvard coach Tim Murphy was asked this week why the Crimson, who can schedule any team in the East, would play Georgetown, given the Hoyas' lack of football reputation. "They've been an opponent for a couple of years now and people ask me, 'Why Georgetown?' It makes sense to us. It's a great recruiting area. It has a great alumni base. Obviously, a very strong athletic program. Obviously, a very strong academic institution. So, for all those reasons. It makes it a no-brainer for us."
Thoughts?

Here's the problem with independent: who do we play come mid October and all of November? I get playing 3-4 Ivies early. That's great. What happens when the Ivy league (and all others) are locked into league matchups for the last 2/3 of the season? Might as well keep those Lafayette/holy cross/colgate games instead of a lot of late byes and random games vs the odd NEC or Pioneer teams. Like most leagues the Ivy league does not schedule non-league games past about mid-October. It will be like our season is ending right when everyone else heads into the meat of football season?

Agreed - I love being in the Partiot and hope that we are able to stay in for the long term.

No offense, but Murphy has a long history of scheduling "down" while he's been at Harvard. It's probably why they play us (HC) so often too. It's too bad too because Harvard could have some very interesting games against stronger CAA schools, Army etc.

There's no reason to pretend that's not what is going on. Its a perfect quid pro quo actually. Why should Murphy risk losing games to CAA teams when his program isn't eligible for the playoffs? Beating Yale and winning Ivy titles is all that matters for them and neither beating nor losing to a Richmond or a Villanova helps that goal at all.
