Wow. The timing of this self-imposed ban is a bit surprising.
Perhaps UL figures that if they get their ban out of the way this year, they will have a clearer path next season with a potential UNC ban on the horizon?

Wonder if they found some new, more damaging information and are just trying to get out ahead of that. Either way, it's a brutal thing to do the seniors (who had nothing to do with this).

What makes you think this year's seniors are clean here? The allegations run through 2014, including providing hookers to recruits. How do you know Lee and Lewis are not involved?

Didn't they just transfer in this year? Regardless, they came from smaller schools hoping to have one year at the big time, and now they get screwed over by Louisville choosing what was best for the program and not what's best for the players (just like Syracuse last year). They could have waited until after the season and allow players to transfer (if they wanted) before self-imposing for next year, but nope, not going to do that.

And the positions taken by Louisville and Syracuse are a surprise to any of us? This is the type of cesspool into which big time college programs willingly dive headlong, for a bigger cut of the action. These are the types of programs against which Georgetown must recruit to be successful, without offering any of the "perks" available elsewhere. Not to sound holier-than-thou, but I am willing to take our program, with its on-court frustrations and continuous fodder for this board, over those other programs whose NCAA issues are well chronicled.

The punishments are often stupid and usually hurt more people that don't deserve it than those who do but there's a simple fix. Stop freaking cheating. Pitino knows, as does everyone else, that violations result in ill-conceived punishments. To whine about them after the fact is pathetic. If Pitino had made the same comments when his team wasn't in violation, it'd feel a whole lot less hollow.

More self-imposed sanctions - 1 schollie each of the next 2 years, also reduced recruiting visits and days.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that will be enough for the NCAA. . .then again, it may be another two years before they finish with their investigation.

I know very little but I would be very surprised if Pitino resigned or was fired. Calipari always stinks but look at the level of Memphis recruiting after he left. Look at the recruits he gets now. There has to be red flags for any and all kids committing to Kentucky but it doesn't matter. College wins being vacated doesn't matter to one and dones. It may hurt the recruiting of multi-year kids but it won't hurt a coach's chances much with the best of the best. It seems rare to me that the NCAA imposes sanctions in-season anyway (which I agree with if that is, in fact, the case. Give innocent kids an opportunity to move on.).
