What's really sad is that these comments drew applause.

Multiple female friends of mine at Georgetown dealt with sexual assault. It is an epidemic. Maybe don't denigrate rape victims so you can take a cheap potshot at Hillary?

There's an epidemic of due process abuse by universities as well. Does she have a plan for that?

Even though I rapidly become more of a hippy liberal with every passing day (or maybe the conservative options keep getting worse?), i have to say that I'm pretty disturbed by the lack of due process in these cases. Weirdly, Emily Yoffe, the advice columnist at Slate, has written some of the best and most sensitive writings from this point of view (here's a recent update: Campus Rape Decision Reversed) But while I'm fully on the side of due process, I have yet to see any solutions to the basic problem of trying to prosecute rape: Much of sexual assault or rape occurs in situations where there are no eyewitnesses or objective evidence as to what occurred in terms of consent. I'm not even talking about really difficult situations like two drunk people; I'm talking about the ability to prosecute a situation where someone clearly rapes another person but it was not in public and from all third parties there could be a reasonable belief that that it was consensual. In other words, date rape or marital rape or even just rape between friends. It's incredibly difficult to prove under the current standards. It's more pervasive than most people want to admit. It's an awful crime with incredible long term implications. I'm not in favor of actions that convict people and greatly harm their lives under a different standard than the criminal justice system currently has ... but people also need to acknowledge that between the social stigma put against rape victims, police and other authorities often treating them like criminals not victims, and the inherent difficulty of gathering compelling evidence in a date rape situation ... solutions and improvements would be nice. Instead we get a whole lot of talk about "legitimate rape" and worse. Punishing anyone accused of rape isn't the answer, but maybe there's a few steps we could do in between, huh? As for Rep Solis, we can put him wherever we put Huckabee for thinking the Dred Scott decision is still the law of the land.

"A crackdown on 'epidemic' of campus sexual assault" I'm sure you'll have some lame excuse about how quoting epidemic isn't casting doubt on the claims of sexual assault on campus. Also, great job with the UVa Rolling Stone story, which obviously is representative of the REAL issue, fake claims of rape.

I'll type slower so maybe you can understand. Pointing out that there is not an "epidemic" (yes, the quotes are purposeful), does not mean that sexual assaults do not occur on college campuses. However, as with many issues, the true problem has been blown out of proportion and transmogrified to the point where addressing the real problem is nigh impossible.

Ohhh, it's not that you're denigrating rape victims, it's that it's that the problem of sexual assault on college campuses has been blown out of proportion and now we can't address the real problems! Good thing that's not the textbook definition of being a rape apologist (I know I know, that's a stupid hippie liberal term that doesn't mean anything). rationalwiki.org/wiki/Rape_apology

You win. You cited to a wiki. BTW, that was a fun read. Such gems, like: "Predictably, there is an overlap between rape apologists and those who oppose reproductive rights for women, and/or those who feel that marriage equals ownership."
