Sorry to hear this news. Pearl was indeed an incredible talent. Without kids like him, it wouldn't have been much of a rivalry. And no, he was nothing like the Devendorfs who came later. Hoping - and praying - for the best. |

I joined the SU board back in January, before the syracusefan.com was closed to registration to outsiders in the prelude to the NCAA investigation/sanctions. I posted for the first time this afternoon, expressing our prayers on behalf of and best wishes to Pearl, noting how much respect we had for him as a most worthy adversary. I did identify myself as a GU grad.
My post has been embargoed for a half-hour now by the moderators. Still not cleared and still not visible.
Nice job, guys. And you wonder why we hate anyone affiliated with Lower Canada Community College.
UPDATE: Just posted. Still should never have been embargoed. What is this, Canada?

Played with that NYC playground swagger, then crushed our spirit with a smooth spin or money jumper - became a much better shooter with the game on the line. Don't remember ever praying for an Orangeman before, but I will tonight.

Those of you youngsters on this board, who never saw Pearl play, should check out some videos on YouTube (there must be a few; I didn't look). He could control a game single-handedly. Why, he even made Boeheim look like he knew what he was doing as a coach. Simply electric.
Horribly sad news. Prayers and thought for Pearl and his family.

Requiescat in pace, Pearl. You helped make the Big East what it was. There are not many Syracuse players who deserved our respect. . .but Pearl certainly did.
