I hope the 'Leonard Fournette Should Be Able To Enter The Draft After This Season' hype/talk doesn't affect his play in a negative way. His situation is starting to remind me of the Jadeveon Clowney talk a few years ago when a lot of media-types started to overhype him and say it's not fair for him to be in college. In my opinion, all that talk caused him to play cautiously and not give a full effort during his last year. Fournette has been dominant so far, but he's just played against 2 SEC teams. These people should wait a few more games before encouraging him to stop playing right now and sit out until the 2017 draft. I predict that this talk will wind down once SEC play begins in earnest. Fournette has more talent than his offensive line, and I think it will show in the second half of the season when LSU faces better defenses. I think what will hurt them worse is the lack of a passing attack.

I'm watching this game now and the stadium looks to be about 60% filled. I figured it would still be sold out, even on short notice because people who normally couldn't attend a game, would show up. The announcers said that Les Miles told the LSU fans to cheer for South Carolina and not to be that loud for LSU. The LSU crowd has been a bit subdued so far early in the 1st Quarter.

Horrible, cruel injury for Nick Chubb. No idea why they didn't take him off on a cart right away. Looked like he pretty much passed out from the pain when they eventually tried to walk him to the locker room. Saw the replay once, don't want to see it again.

I had to bring up Maryland coaching situation. Why would it come out that Maryland could be firing Randy Edsall before or after the Ohio State game that they just played?? If they want to get rid of him, they should have just fired him on the spot. I didn't have any feelings about his firing until I saw that his highest rated 2016 recruits didn't seem to care about him getting fired!! One recruit tweeted just these 2 words, "Chip Kelly"!! Seeing that made me feel kind of bad for Randy Edsall because the guys he recruited appeared to have turned on him too.

Lots of mistakes by LSU in the game against the Bulldogs Gators, but the Mad Hatter strikes again to pull it out, and the defense hangs on. Actually, it was the kicker who walked up to Miles and put the bug in his ear. LSU just put the play in this week.

Austin, I was going to ask why you didn't include the bits of broken chair trophy, but obviously, I underestimated you. Well done.
Also, well done to both the Gophers and the Cornhuskers for running with a stupid idea (otherwise known as how all good trophies get started in CFB).

I don't stay up late to watch sports very often these days, but I'm glad I stayed up to watch Todd Graham's team lose to Oregon last night. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_GrahamWeek 9 Picks for Games that Matter: Utah State over Wyoming in Bridger's Battle for the Jim Bridger Rifle (Friday) Clemson over N.C. State in the Textile Bowl for the Textile Bowl Trophy Florida over Georgia at the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party for the Okefenokee Oar Florida Atlantic over Florida International in the Shula Bowl for the Don Shula Award Louisiana-Lafayette over Louisiana-Monroe in the Battle on the Bayou for the Wooden Boot Michigan over Minnesota for the Little Brown Jug Tennessee over Kentucky for the Beer Barrel* Notre Dame over Temple** Air Force over Hawaii for the Kuter Trophy Also, Western Michigan defeated Eastern Michigan to clinch the Michigan MAC Trophy last night. A game that doesn't make the official list but one that I will be watching on Saturday night is Stanford at Wazzu. Both teams have rebounded after disappointing season-opening losses. Stanford has its eye on the CFB playoffs but the Cougs can put themselves in the driver's seat in the Pac-12 North with a win. This is the biggest night game in Pullman of the Mike Leach era (although frankly that's not saying much). *Memo to Kentucky and Tennessee: if you ditch a trophy, consider creating a new one. **The lone meeting of ranked teams in Week 9

Week 10 Picks for Games that Matter:
Illinois over Purdue for the Purdue Cannon N. Carolina over Duke for the Victory Bell* Colorado State over Wyoming for the Bronze Boot Clemson over Florida State Air Force over Army in a Commander In Chief's Trophy game TCU over Oklahoma State Alabama over LSU Butler over Valparaiso for the Hoosier Helmet trophy The Citadel over VMI in the Military Classic of the South for the Silver Shako**
FCS games I missed last week:
Alabama State defeated Alabama A&M in the Magic City Classic Northwestern State defeated Nicholls State in the NSU Challenge for the NSU Trophy
*Duke and N. Carolina used to compete in an all-sports rivalry for the Carlyle Cup. I just discovered that the all-sports series was briefly renamed to the Battle of the Blues Presented by Continental Tire (barf) before it was discontinued, along with the Carlyle Cup, in 2011. I generally think that all-sports series are a dumb branding fad, and I'm glad to know that one of them has disappeared.
**Bonus points if you can tell me what a shako is without consulting a dictionary.

So this Leonard Fournette as Earl Campbell/Bo Jackson nonsense can slow down for a bit now.
Welcome to Tuscaloosa Mr. Fournette. Rethinking that commitment yet?
