I like the out-of-the-box ideas, but shouldn't the promotions be aimed at getting college kids to attend these games? The Kale one seemed aimed at that. Free admission for Dads on Dad Bod Day doesn't seem to be aimed at college kids.
I like the direction though, this is more inventive than anything that anyone in McDonough came up with in the 1990's or Oughts. They're getting press for their creativity and these all seem harmless fun and nothing bordering on Bill Veeck stuff.

I thought they were speaking to me personally.

Maybe the AD guy thinks that if I can get dad to come, the whole family shows up for attendance purposes? Or the player tells his college friends who wouldn't otherwise attend, hey my dad is in the contest, come watch him make a fool of himself in a goodnatured way? Get the dad to donate to his kid's sport? Dunno.

If one more person shows up to support the team based on this promotion it is by definition a success.

The dad bod thing is something that is reasonably topical right now and had a good chance of getting noticed on social media or even traditional media.
The point is not to attract dads necessarily; it's to grab free impressions because it's humorous and people will share it.
Just like the lake promotion.
