Few things from today:
Trey Mourning has improved immensely. Still needs to continue getting stronger, but plays with a motor, talks a lot on defense and is a smart defender. Also, looks almost automatic from 15/16-feet and looks comfortable putting the ball on the floor and attacking the basket.
Tre Campbell had a very bad game. Hunted his shot the entire game and was off.
Josh Hart was the best player in the gym. Did everything. Looks like a future pro. LOL at him being a better shooter than Cameron.
Govan will start from day one. This shouldn't be a debate. Starting to fall in love a little too much with shooting threes for my taste, but once he learns how to become stronger with the ball in his hands and move his feet on defense, he'll be a force.
Peak was Peak. Jumper looks better, he looks like he's in much better shape and scored in every way possible.
Kaleb Johnson looks very promising. His jumper is shaky but he just attacks the basket relentlessly in a controlled manner. Does the dirty work too. Can handle it as well. Good addition.

Good to hear about Peak and his improved jumper and conditioning. I realize it's just one Kenner game, but if he works on those two aspects he's going to be an impact player this year. And did you really have to post the Hart/Cameron comparison??? Ouch. I wasn't happy with the recruiting situations with both of them two years ago, and now you have to remind me??

Anyone else getting concerned about White, DSR and Copeland's health situations? I can't remember a Kenner where we had so many DNPs.

They are upper classmen so don't need it as much as the freshman or deep on the bench players. And the Italy trip is coming up soon. Honestly, these games are kind of pointless for them because it's basically just run and gun AAU ball type stuff and zero designed offense or defense.

No not at all. injuries reported have not been too serious unless i missed something. Not surprised by the increase in DNP Between 2 sessions of summer school and a solid week of practice starting around the 7th if not earlier i'm sure many players could be catching a quick weekend home when and where possible. Remember too some courses have certain weekend commitments.

It's always good to get work in regardless, but it's better to make sure the team is as close to 100% healthy heading into the trip to Italy. The size of the cast on Bradley Hayes' hand was somewhat surprising, but I'm still not worried about it.

Thanks for the info.I am especially pleased to hear about Trey. I think he is an afterthought to some folks, but I have a feeling he will be in the rotation at some point, perhaps a stretch 4/ 5. From limited time, it looked like he has a good sense of the game, in term of passing, and if he can consistently hit a 16 foot shot, he should be a big help.

DSR, Paul White and Copeland all played today. Paul White didn't get a lot of minutes, but that was only because the A.Wash coach played Cliff Dixon and former South Florida big man Gus Gilchrist over him. Just a few quick notes on today's games, late in the Clyde's-Beyond Belief game, Clyde's was down by 5 when L.J. Peak was fouled on a 3-point attempt, he made the first 2, missed the 3rd, Clyde's got the offensive rebound, got the ball back to Peak who knocked down a 3-pointer to tie the game with about 12 seconds left. The guy who fouled Peak ended up hitting what turned out to be the game winning basket on the next play. Also, after the Hoop Magic beat Tombs in OT, JTIII was speaking with Govan and looked to be explaining things he did wrong in the final minutes of the game in which Tombs blew a 7 or 8 point lead. I saw Ron Bailey at the Clyde's-Beyond Belief game, hopefully his and Casual Hoya's recap will be up soon.

Wasn't able to see much of this weekend's action but a few observations from what I saw. Peak is improving. Last year he was a drive the basket and get fouled guy. Now, his outside shot is better and he's spacing the floor and showing the other guys where to go. Copeland missed Saturday but played Sunday. His jump shot is a thing of beauty, smooth and with a quick release. Govan got a good workout against Julian Vaughan (who looked great). He needs to improve his footwork and hands but could hold his own and then some. DSR was back but left the game early. I couldn't see an injury. He had just had a burst where he had scored 9 points in about 2 minutes but was otherwise quiet. Paul White also came back but played limited minutes. He played some decent D on Maryland's Robert Carter who has been one of Kenner's best players. Agau was impressive again, picking up a bunch of buckets inside, grabbing boards and blocking some shots. With Carter appearing occasinally disinterested early in the game, Agau was carrying the team for a while. Bradley is still in a cast.
