Very nice write up on Kenner by vv1983 on Casualhoya.. www.casualhoya.com/2015/7/11/8936051/kenner-league-recap-july-11-2015Re: Derrickson - his outside shot is really a thing of beauty. High release, perfect rotation and arc. every shot looks good off his hand. One of his threes was a real bomb, probably well beyond NBA distance from the top of the key. Very confident in his shot, he’ll fire it up any time he sees the opening.I want to see him used in pick & pop plays as much as possible this season.. Yes! How about this quote: "-twice he came down with defensive boards, and took the ball end to end for a basket" Add him to the guard depth chart (ducks!).

I would just say that when people refer to "last year", they are referring to about 120 days ago. I don't expect players to change their games in that time period. Realistically, we should hope for improvement by January, after what Coach calls the "preseason".

What I suspect is that we can be ultra aggressive in the front court because of the depth. I hope as a team we don't allow easy drives and hack or foul hard because of the depth.

Last night was a bit disappointing for Hoya fans. Hayes and DSR weren't there for the first game and Paul White was in his sweats not playing. Cameron played pretty well against a depleted Awash team that couldn't keep it close. In the second game, Peak was a no show for Clydes. Copeland was their only real scoring threat, so the other team defended accordingly. I didn't track the stats, but he was doing most of the scoring. Aaron Bowen played in both games with a highlight real dunk in the opener to shatter any idea of a comeback Awash may have had.

Question After a few Kenner games, who is going to rebound for us this year and provide interior D?

Rebound by committee. Copeland became a much better rebounder towards the latter part of last season, Expect Hayes to be key contributor, White-needs to get better, With Govan's build and height I would hope he can help out, not sure about Derrickson, and DSR isn't bad at grabbing boards for a guard.

Govan should be OK on the defensive boards. he won't be flying around grabbing boards out of his area, but he'll lock down the boards in his area pretty well. Derrickson also looks pretty solid. Neither guy has the great rebounding instincts that Otto had, but they both get good position and secure their share of defensive rebounds. Kaleb Johnson actually seems to have the best rebounding instincts of the freshmen. He gets a lot of rebounds for a guy his size. Long arms, a little bit of bounce, solid instincts. He probably won't play too much this year, but over time he could develop into a plus rebounder for his position.

Govan has been active on the boards and with his size and strength should get some numbers. Haven't seen enough of Derrickson to be sure but he seems to have the right instincts. Don't forget about Agau. He's another big, strong guy. As for interior D, Govan looks pretty good, although he was getting beat by a quicker guy last week. Agau did a decent job when he was matched up on Govan. Hayes still has to improve his footwork, but has the size.

Yeah when we're talking rebounding and the first 2 people mentioned are Freshman, that definitely doesn't make me feel confident.. Haha
We will see, it will definitely be rebound by committee but would like somebody to step up and get greedy on the boards..

Ike will average 6.5, Paul maybe 5.5, DSR like 4.5, and hopefully Hayes can give us at least 6. Could be better, but we should have enough talents to fill in the gaps.

Would love to be wrong, but I'll take the under on Hayes averaging 6 rpg. I agree on the commentary that it will be rebounding by committee. Won't be one guy who's a dominant rebounder, but there also shouldn't be anybody on the floor at any time who is a particularly poor rebounder.

Haha We will see, it will definitely be rebound by committee but would like somebody to step up and get greedy on the boards.. It becomes even more imperative to play a big line up with DSR at point, LJ at shooting guard and Copeland at small forward. Not only does that put those three in the best position to succeed at the next level but DSR is a plus rebounder as a point guard and LJ and Copeland will have a size and athleticism advantage at those positions at the college level. That gives us a rebounding advantage at 1-3 to go along with any committee (Paul White, Derrickson, Govan, Trey Mourning, Akoy Agau, BJ Hayes) at the 4-5. Copeland is subpar as a rebounder and defender at power forward due mainly to size and not having the rebounding instincts that Otto had (35 rebounds in the state championship game at Polk High). Going small with Tre at point, DSR at SG, Peak at SF, Copeland at PF for prolonged periods of time against elite NCAA competition will lead to rebounding deficits. The small lineup can be used for certain matchups or inferior teams but shouldn't be relied on as the base lineup.

Saw one game with Agau and he seems tentative. I love the classic hoyatalk saying he was dominating in practice. I think he will be a fill in wing who is average on D and boards and below average on O. Maybe Kenner isn't the forum for him and I could easily (hopefully) be wrong.
