Good numbers on paper for Govan considering he was facing a legit frontline in Robert Carter(UMD) Yuta Watanabe GW (6'8 SF) and Agau...
Pretty stacked frontline for a Summer League Squad. Reports that Johnson struggled to finish in this one and not surprising considering the comp..
Lot's of people in attendance for this one so I'm sure we will get more in depth coverage later.

Ruh Roh... Mourning with 18 and 13? Now that sounds like the Peak I remembered in high school. Love the way that all of our guys are gaining in confidence so quickly. That's the mark of a team that's going to make some noise in conference play. Love it! As always, thanks for the reports.

Looks like mourning is going to be part of the rotation. We may very well go 10 deep this year.

This is what I hope to see during the season. There were times last year where I expected to see LJ challenge defenders and try to dunk on them. Only to see him back down. 9/10 you are either finishing the dunk or going to the line for 2. It's a win/win......

This caught my attention... Patrick Ewing Jr. was helping to coach Clyde’s and the Tombs. Casual tweeted that he has heard that Patrick may be joining the program in some kind of coaching role. Patrick’s energy and commitment to the program would certainly be welcome additions, and he seemed to have a really good understanding of Thompson’s schemes in his playing days. www.casualhoya.com/2015/7/11/8936051/kenner-league-recap-july-11-2015Please let this be true!

YaBoy just killing it. Thanks to all for the updates. It's ridiculous how excited I am just reading this thread. Keep working hard, Hoyas! Glad to hear someone else is as excited as I am. I know Kenner isn't a perfect indicator, but as far as summer leagues go, it's actually one of the more "realistic." No eighty point games or triple doubles to get the fanbase excited about and then they player comes back to the BE and is just Corey Fisher again. Not to get too specific in an example. Yes, LJ Peak is made for this type of game and he's not likely to score 30 ppg in the BE. Govan will be lucky to be dropping half his current average. That's all fine. Guess what I'm pretty certain we've learned though: * None of Govan, Derrickson or Johnson is a bust and ALL of them could contribute this year. Plenty of our players barely play or score in Kenner -- these are the guys unready to contribute in the Big East. Putting up games with double digit points is far from guaranteed -- it doesn't mean the player is great, but it does mean they can play. I know we didn't expect any of these guys to fail, but it is actually pretty remarkable that none of them seem to be a project. And this is two years in a row.... because: * Mourning seems vastly improved. Again, it doesn't mean he's going to be above average in the Big East, but it does mean he's drastically improved and he's on the path to be a contributor. * Look at the all the shooting. It won't all translate with the defense, but one big concern was who was going to step up with Trawick leaving -- how about everyone? White and Peak seem to be improved, and Derrickson and Govan seem to come in as good or better than advertised. I know this is mostly on one side of the ball but the offense might be pretty fantastic this year. * Partially because the spacing could be amazing this year. Imagine... a team with Govan or Derrickson out there where the lane is completely empty for Peak's or DSR's drives because our four and five can hit the three. * I'm even excited about a freshman Kaleb Johnson not being that far from a fifth-year senior Aaron Bowen (okay, just on offense).

White and Peak seem to be improved, and Derrickson and Govan seem to come in as good or better than advertised. I know this is mostly on one side of the ball but the offense might be pretty fantastic this year. Look at the three point shooting percentages for these three sophs last season: Campbell - .362 White - .377 Copeland - .389 Those are OUTSTANDING percentages for freshmen. And typically Hoya players under III get better at shooting from distance throughout the course of their college careers. Watch out if this holds up for these three. You add the obvious DSR and reports from HR is that Derrickson is lighting it up from outside in pickup games and practices. The you add the possibility of Govan and the apparent improvement from Peak and...well....good times.

Observations from today: Hayes looked good but wasn't getting the ball that much. Blocked some shots and looked more comfortable than previous summers. Cameron made a couple 3s but sometimes disappeared. He's been working on his rebounding and defense and sporting a new hairstyle. Govan had another good game matched up against a tough front line. I like the way he works the low post and looks to rebound. Johnson was quieter today, playing for the most part against some bigger guys. He still shows a strong motor and came up with some loose balls even if he didn't score as much. Today was the first appearance for Agau. He's not as big as Govan but should be able to help up front. Not a great offensive game, but he could eventually fill the Hopkins role. I like the way he stayed active underneath and defended the post. He has Robert Carter from UMD on his team to take the shots.
In the 3rd game, LJ was the best player on the court. His outside shot is looking way better, and he's stronger this year. Copeland had a spectacular dunk off a rebound and got a bunch of boards against some bigger guys. Trey played the best game I've seen him play. He looked much more comfortable and scored and rebounded well throughout. Tre took a while to get going but caught fire and started draining 3s. He had a couple of ill-advised drives into traffic but I like the confidence. At that point, I couldn't take sitting on those bleachers any longer and left.
Anyone know why the snack bar isn't working?

It's difficult to say which update excites me most but I guess I'll go with a few of the snippets about Govan. Establishing position down low. Looking physically ready to bang. Hitting a couple of threes as part of his normal repertoire. It's like someone gave me a dim sum menu and I picked everything that I wanted. I cannot wait to see what a mobile, physical big man that opponents have to guard out to the 3 point line will do for our offense. Defense is still a huge question mark and Kenner is Kenner but skills are skills. It remains to be seen what translates and what doesn't but it seems that there are plenty of things pointing in the right direction and I'm amped to see what this group can do.

Imagine... a team with Govan or Derrickson out there where the lane is completely empty for Peak's or DSR's drives because our four and five can hit the three. We need them to be good passers too so they can hit the cutters. But, with 5 v 5 offense, there will be plenty of space to cut and to find cutters.
