Not surprised at all that Johnson looks good in this environment. He's very long is a good athlete and if you let him get to his left hand he can finish at a high clip. Also really good about playing within himself and only taking shots he knows he can make. I'd put money on him getting at least one poster during Kenner as well.

I am having trouble figuring out what I should be more excited about right now ... but I think it's the fact that Jessie Govan can hit a three.

I am hoping that Mourning is for real, but my recollection of Kenner is that point totals are often not a good reflection of quality. Johnson not a surprise based upon what I have been told by a buddy who watched him often.

Paul tweaked his ankle according to reports.. Not viewed as anything major but he shut it down a bit early as a result...

Great showing by the frosh in their first taste of Kenner!
Btw, Who is in charge of the FL recaps from Kenner this year?

Glad to see that Johnson did well so far. He can be a glue guy that contributes for four years. Plus, he will hopefully be happy here so that his little brother follows!

Govan looked pretty comfortable when taking his threes. Missed one or two late ones that seemed pretty solid. Didn't seem to be hustling all that much but since Tombs only has 5 players he might just have been conserving energy. Had good energy at the end and in OT.
Peak was solid and had a couple of highlight quality drives with spins and reverse banks, etc.
Johnson was aggressive and showed a decent handle. Had a couple of good slashes to the rim.
Mourning looked a lot bigger and was banging inside at times. Also very aggressive and way more confident than last year. It looks like he's going to try to make a case for minutes this season.
Campbell was the quickest guy on the floor and yet seemed under control at all times.
Good showings by all the Hoyas in the 2 games I saw.
The littlest Ewing made an appearance as well. Looks a lot like his grandfather had a great dribble going...

I missed today's first game but caught the next 2. Small sample size, but the new guys look pretty good. Govan is strong and runs the court well for his size. He had a few shaky moments at first, but really came on as the game progressed. As noted above, he has a good stroke, but his inside game was even more impressive. He did a great job of establishing position in the low post (mostly with Mourning guarding him) and took care of rebounding while blocking a couple shots. He should be able to contribute this year and keep defenses from locking down DSR on the perimeter.
Johnson may be able to step into the Aaron Bowen role. He's a high energy guy with long arms. Not big, but active under the hoop. His outside shot is a little rough, but he scored a bunch on drives and putbacks. He did a good job on D against some bigger guys and fed Govan inside a couple of times.
Derrickson was impressive. He was matched up against White most of the time and played him pretty well. He has a big upper body, almost reminds me of a young Sweetney. His team was noticeably worse when he wasn't in the game. He scored both inside and out and should be ready to contribute backing up Copeland and White.
As for the veterans, Mourning looked stronger, had some nice plays around the basket and played Govan tough. Campbell was looking to distribute, not score today, so his numbers weren't outstanding, but we know he can play. DSR put up around 20 despite being double-teamed much of the game. White hurt his ankle late in the game but was walking around on the sideline. When he was in, he did about everything. He has clearly been working on his shot and was deadly when open. He also played strong D on Derrickson who had most of his points when someone else was on him. Riyan Williams had some great buckets on drives to the hoop and was active on both ends.
Only the first weekend, but I say there's reason for optimism.

Johnson not a surprise based upon what I have been told by a buddy who watched him often. For what it's worth cal, Trey didn't score 15pts in all of Kenner last summer. I'm hoping for the best from Trey also but I truly believe he will be able to score the ball this upcoming season.

According to Twitter Peak is back at it today... My two kids didn't let me stay past half time, but he looked very good. Hit at least 3 3s. Looked solid with the ball. Ike looked ok, but I think he got banged in the head before I got there. He struggled with post defense. Was so so get ting to the hole. His best position is small forward and he's being forced to play 4-5 in Kenner. This is also why LJ will play shooting guard this year because Peak's best position is small forward, not power.

Very nice write up on Kenner by vv1983 on Casualhoya.. www.casualhoya.com/2015/7/11/8936051/kenner-league-recap-july-11-2015Re: Derrickson - his outside shot is really a thing of beauty. High release, perfect rotation and arc. every shot looks good off his hand. One of his threes was a real bomb, probably well beyond NBA distance from the top of the key. Very confident in his shot, he’ll fire it up any time he sees the opening.I want to see him used in pick & pop plays as much as possible this season..

This caught my attention... Patrick Ewing Jr. was helping to coach Clyde’s and the Tombs. Casual tweeted that he has heard that Patrick may be joining the program in some kind of coaching role. Patrick’s energy and commitment to the program would certainly be welcome additions, and he seemed to have a really good understanding of Thompson’s schemes in his playing days. www.casualhoya.com/2015/7/11/8936051/kenner-league-recap-july-11-2015

I remember the year before Cox was the head of bball operations he coached the tombs so maybe it's a job in waiting for him as maybe the assistant bball operations.

great reports Agree with all the comments Jessie had trouble handling the ball in the begining but after that OH MY and Caleb does look a little philly tough like defense guick tough to the hoop TOUGH and pretty good d and rebbies too. YUP good year coming a few pasta meals in italy after kenner and away we go. Agree Mourning looked much tougher smoother and more confident.
