Here's hoping that the good Dr. Lic can provide us with some info in English, not Licish, after he gets back to his room tonight after the vino, the pasta, the muffato wine and the tiramisù. Don't forget the banana!

Hi Gang....I was at the game ....here is my assessment based on one game only:
Marcus Derrickson.....wow, just wow!! For whatever reason going into the game, I thought Marcus would get spot minutes and i hoped that in a few years he would become an impact player. Well...let's just say that he was undoubtedly the best player on the court today...and I see him competing with Copeland and White for a starting spot at some point. He must have grabbed 5 or 6 offensive boards, often times flying in from out of his area and getting a put backs well above the rim. He was far more athletic and intense than I thought. He looked good on D and had good lateral quickness for his size. Finally, his shot is pure.....perfect form and rotation....and one point he pulled up from 25' and stoked it. He went for 20 and 8 or so boards. We got a winner!!
Isaac Copeland....Isaac was Isaac. his midrange game seems to be becoming his strength. He looked super smooth from deep on a shot and followed it up the next play by going high in the air to grab and offensive board and put back. He still has a tendency to disappear a bit and when the game was on the line in was Marcus who took over, not Isaac. He went for 9 points I believe and did an okay job on the boards. He did a very good job closing out on three point shooters....in fact, the whole team seems to have emphasized that this year.
Paul White.....tonight was not his night. He did a decent job hitting the boards, but he was just a bit out of sorts. He did have an incredibly smooth drive to the bucket where he finished with a euro step finger roll lay in....but other then that...had an off game.
LJP.....LJ was aggressive tonight on both sides of the ball. He took it to the hole hard and was getting hacked but simply was not getting the calls. He hit a nice three early on and got the HOYAS going and seems to be looking for his shot much more than I saw him do last year. He finished with 7.
Tre Campbell - It was a tale of two halves for Tre. The first half he seemed to be forcing things and made some questionable decisions on the break. His shot was off and he struggled to run the offense. Not having DSR on the court I think hurt tre in that they generally both share the responsibilty of being the floor general and by having to do it all....he struggled in that capacity early on. Tre in the 2nd half was a different player. He hit a 3 out of half time and you could see his confidence lift. Moments later he hit another big three and follows that up with another bucket. He went for 8.
Jessie Govan.....classic back to the basket big man we've been wanting. He looked really good on his post moves early on and exhibited nice foot work. The team was feeding him in the post early and often but some some reason went away from that as soon as he started getting double teamed. Jessie finished with 8 points and 5 or so boards. We are going to really need Jessie to crash the boards hard this year....an area which could use more of his focus.
Tre Mourning - Tre looked good. Much more confident then he was a year ago....made smart plays, was active, and hustled. He's got a nice mid-range shot with a high release, but was just a little off on his shot. We know he can shoot it so when that's starts falling, he going to a great asset. Bottom line, he's going to play this year.
Kaleb Johnson - He's active, a smooth athlete, and pretty good with the mall. He didn't shoot it much but it appears to me that he can be a serviceable player this year.
Add Bradley Hayes, Agau and DSR to the mix....and we have a combination of guys who can be special this year.

I knew I forgot someone.....Reggie!!
Reggie went for 14 by my count and really gave us the lead in the first half. His shot looked great and the biggest difference was that he wasn't rushing it. I am happier for Reggie when he plays well perhaps more than any other Hoya....really rooting for this kid....and would love him to solidify his role on this year's team. I remain hopeful.

Give the staff credit for considering Periscope, but at this point it's little more than an extended version of Vine. By contrast, the Marquette presentation on YouTube: It's really disappointing that Marquette was able to get this done for their fan base. Meanwhile, we get ten minutes of grainy video. Would really like Georgetown to move forward to using all the technology available. If you want to build excitement around the program this would have been a good start. Feels like a bit of a missed opportunity. Actually, feels like a massive, inexcusable missed opportunity. It would be one thing if full coverage were unprecedented or logistically impossible. But Marquette just did it. Why can't Georgetown?

Thanks B&G.. good report. Sounds like everyone did pretty well, or almost everyone. Not worried about an off game by White, or Campell taking the first half to adjust to his role, they'll be fine.
But MAN! Your news about Derrickson is really exciting! Given the hard work and determination as evidenced by his 35-40 lbs weight loss last year & running half marathons, along with his strong performance on the court at Brewster I have really high hopes for a surprisingly successful freshman year. Reading your notes supports my hunch. Yes, it's only one game - and in Italy. Nonetheless.... it's a great start. Perhaps someone on the board can confirm, but I believe when he was a soph he was ranked top 10 in the nation by ESPN? Going off to NH for his final year was a great choice. Maybe he wants to prove he was seriously under-rated as a senior. Chip on the shoulder? Could easily work to our benefit. Jeff and Otto were also highly under-rated forward recruits when they arrived at GU.
Very Exciting!!
Thanks B&G.... have a great time over there.

Derrickson was solid in kenner play this summer, but he kind of disappeared for long stretches. I think he is the kind of player who is much better in real games with more focus and structure. The glorified pickup environment of kenner does not suit him well, because he really knows how to play real team basketball, and is much more inclined to make plays within a full team structure, rather than trying to do things primarily on his own
Hopefully today was the start of a great Georgetown career for Marcus!

Keep in mind we are playing without our best player and team leader. We do need Bradley Hayes. That's a joke, right? Cuz we'd be a pretty bad team if we "needed" Bradley Hayes.

That trip was part MMA and part basketball. My favorite memory of Moses will always be of his lumbering around a court somewhere in China, holding a chair. Can you imagine Moses wrestling that was perfect material for a WWE resume.

Thanks for the reports from those lucky enough to be there!
Good to hear that Cameron is looking more confident, a player who can get hot from 3 is a valuable piece of any team.
It'll be interesting to see what lineups JT3 runs out there most of the year. Being so deep at the 2, 3, and 4 positions should lead to some more running and mixtures of skills.

I feel the same way about Reggie. Always partial to the kids that come and stick it out to eventually earn playing time. The past couple of years it was Bowen. Now I root for Reggie and Trey. Thanks for the report.

It'll be interesting to see what lineups JT3 runs out there most of the year. Being so deep at the 2, 3, and 4 positions should lead to some more running and mixtures of skills. Agree on all points. Additionally, with that level of quality depth, the team becomes less susceptible to off nights by individual players that, in other years, would be a huge blow to absorb. With the added options, hopefully, comes added consistency and less pressure on all of the guys to try to have a huge game. It's great to have guys that can be "the man" in a game here and there but it's even better to have multiple guys capable of it on any given night. It allows everyone to relax and play within themselves and trust that there are other guys that can contribute. I also loved the post about Govan getting double teamed. In his first game as a Hoya. LOVE that. Get your shots up in practice gents. There's going to be plenty of open looks. And Marcus? I know it's Italy and a preseason game but, if nothing else, it's great for his confidence and great for the team's confidence in him to knock down shots and crash the boards. Hoya practices with different guys going head to head must be really fun to watch.

Great news! I hope he knows he only has to be a shooter and hold his own in the other parts as best he can. As another poster mentioned, a dude that can get hot from three is a huge asset for any team. I know he's got a ways to go to be that guy but this has to have been great for his confidence. Not just hitting the shots but carrying the offense for a bit. I'm a bit in the I'll believe it when I see it camp with him but that's not at all to say that I don't hope, for his sake, that he is figuring it out and getting back the confidence to do what he does best. Keep it up Reggie! There's still time to make your mark. Enjoy the rest of the trip b&g. I hope you're eating your face off. With all of the walking you'll do there, you'll probably even lose a few lbs regardless of what you wolf down. Thanks very much for the reports. Much appreciated.

That was a pleasant surprise, B&G. Your report was much better than the video clip that enticed but did not deliver. As the others have stated, it is great to hear about the "emergence" of Derrickson. I think we all want to see Cameron have a breakout year.
Now, my understanding is that Derrickson did not start the first half but did the second half? Who did he replace?

"Derrickson hit 8-of-12 shots from the floor – including 4-of-6 from 3-point land – to lead the Hoyas. Copeland finished with 13 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Peak added nine points and Campbell had nine points and four rebounds. Govan finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists."
Found this casually, numbers seem differe t thsn what i am reading here, but the general air if stat stuffi g is pretty cool. III has always talked about having ballers, not 1s, 3s, 4s etc - well let's do it!
