The Worlds are in China this summer and Emily Infeld will be running the 10000m. Rachel Schneider has an outside chance of making it too. She has to run a 4:06.5 1500m before the games and one of the two runners, who were immediately ahead of her don't get that standard. With that in mind Rachel is off to Europe to chase that time. First stop is Cork, Ireland for a 3000m run. She came in 2nd to Abby D'Agostino, who made the world team in the 5000m. Rachel got a PR by 12 s. Future races are back to 1500m.

Great race for Rachel in Liege, not so good for Katrina (maybe she was helping rabbit Rachel). But Rachel is still chasing the 4:06.5 time that might put her on the Worlds team:

Great effort and very close--hopefully she doesn't run out of time for qualifying. If she can recover quickly she's probably fit enough to get the world's standard.

Another PR for Rachel and oh, so close to the World's standard. This is the Heusden meet and Rachel said she would be the pacer to take the race through 800m in 2:06-7. She was hoping that they would let her complete the race, which she did in excellent style. However, if she were not the pacer, I think she could have broken the 4:06 barrier. As it is, one of her competitors for the spot on the World's teams, Lauren Johnson, got the standard.
1 13 123 CHEPKOECH BEATRICE KEN Sen 4:03.28 2 12 126 JOHNSON LAUREN USA Sen 4:04.17 3 10 130 MACKEY KATIE USA Sen 4:04.53 4 6 122 CHEPKEMOI CAROLINE KEN Sen 4:05.31 5 18 124 DESALEGN BETLHEM UAE Sen 4:05.41 6 16 136 TULLY NICOLE USA Sen 4:05.89 7 19 262 MAGNANI MARGHERITA ITA Sen 4:06.81 8 20 133 SCHNEIDER RACHEL USA Sen 4:06.90 9 14 128 KOCK MAREN GER Sen 4:07.56 10 4 261 MAGEEAN CIARA IRL Sen 4:08.32 11 9 134 SUJEW ELINA GER Sen 4:09.28 12 7 129 MACIAS ISABEL ESP Sen 4:09.99 13 15 576 HALL LINDEN AUS Sen 4:10.41 14 1 132 NILSSON LINN SWE Sen 4:11.19 15 5 137 VANACCOM SOFIE BEL Sen 4:11.61 16 8 131 NENKAMPI PERINE KEN Sen 4:11.66 17 3 121 CAIN MARY USA Jun 4:11.76 18 11 127 KAMPF HEATHER USA Sen 4:12.91 19 2 125 HETHERINGTON KELLY AUS Sen 4:16.08 20 17 135 TERZIC AMELA SRB Sen 4:20.12
The last two races have had 20 runners in each, which, IMO, is too many for a 1500m race. In fact, the last race in Liege, Katrina fell down 150m into the race, and Rachel got her shoe stepped on and completed the last 1000m with 1.5 shoes and still got a PR.

Rachel is a busy woman this summer. She just won the North American Central American Championships in Costa Rica.

The winner of this race automatically qualifies for the worlds. So Rachel is qualified, but whether she goes depends on how many runners have made the standard. The Worlds want to have certain number of runners in each event. In the 1500m the number is 45.
Rachel's time was a meet record.

As the bronze medal winner of the 10000m for the worlds, Emily Infeld was invited to the Zurich Diamond League meet. The field for the 3000m was stacked with Worlds gold medal winners and American 1500m runners. So this was a little short for Emily with the training she has done.
