Anyone heard anything about Josh?
I do think that among the major sports, soccer and hockey are among the ones where it's most likely that the team that actually played the best doesn't win. I think that's always going to be true in a sport in which so few "points" are scored. But obviously luck is a factor in virtually everything. Even more to the point, extremely small margins are frequently the difference behttp://hoyatalk2.proboards.com/post/new/28856tween winning and losing in so many sports.

My wife claims that soccer is a game of luck. Seton Hall was really lucky this game. Good thing the Hoyas has just enough more luck to win the game. Think good wishes for Josh. That's just silly. Of course there is some luck involved- just like every sport, even cross country(!). But tactics and skill will almost always prevail, especially over the course of 90 minutes. So FF, you are calling my wife silly? I guess you can call aleutia silly too.

Of course I'm not calling your wife silly, Nevada (we will leave that for a later discussion of her taste in men!!), just her contention that "soccer is a game of luck" (assuming that is verbatim). The fact that soccer (and hockey) are generally lower scoring games probably does statistically result in a slightly higher percentage of a game-winning goal involving a fortunate bounce. But how many games turn on a grounder bouncing off a base, a flyball tipping off the edge of a glove, a three-pointer rolling around and around the rim before falling in or away, a fumble or deflected pass falling into the right hands - or a runner nudged off stride during a frantic race start, slipping briefly on a wet or muddy patch, etc. The vast majority of soccer games are won by the better team, keeping offensive pressure on, getting better shots, controlling the ball.

I was starting to think it was a game of luck in the early season, when the Hoyas picked up two losses to teams they should have beaten. Of course, it is the skilled team that will win the majority of games. And my wife does not watch soccer except during the World Cup, so she does not have a great experience watching soccer. And besides she threw out that comment as a joke.

Hoyas take on Villanova today at 1pm. A win today and the Hoyas lock up a share of the regular season title. If Creighton fails to win at Providence a win @ nova will also lock up the #1 seed. I'll be in attendance, can't wait to see the Boys in action.

Yaro in the starting lineup. Kid has toughness in spades.

Hoyas went down 1-0 early on a marshmallow fluff soft PK call, but tied it on a wonderful service, settle, and score by Keegan Rosenberry. Many more chances, including one off the crossbar. It took awhile to finally finish Nova off, but Allen and Arun had a great give-and-go for the game-winner by Brandon.
It's a shame the season-ending showdown is at 2:00 pm on a Thursday. Even with Creighton having been knocked out of the ranks of the unbeaten, it should be one for the ages as the Hoyas go for a perfect regular season.

When can we get some lights for some night soccer? That said, go Hoyas, keep it up.

Was at the game today with my daughter. Beautiful fall day and the winning goal was a very nice set up and finish. We dominated and deserved the win.

Brandon Allen named the College Soccer News player of the week. In their poll the Hoyas moved up to 6th from 8th. Thursday looms large. Just need a tie to win the BE regular season, but a win would put us in the discussion for a top 4 seed in the NCAA tournament.

You'd like to think the Committee is paying attention to more than just record. We're 12-2-2. All of those non-wins were the first six games of the year, and several of them involved significant injuries (namely to Yaro, arguably the best player in the country). Not only that, but the only two losses were to teams that may have seemed unheralded at the time but are in the top 15 in most rankings currently. We could lose our next two and our seeding would suffer immensely, but a reasonably bad outcome (a loss to Creighton, and then another loss to them in the BE Final) really should leave us no worse than a top 8 seed. We'll see.

As it stands Hoyas are 9th in the RPI. Obviously playing Crieghton will bring that up no matter what as they sit at 7th in the RPI.
Our losses are to #5 Akron and #8 South Florida so no bad losses. Our only bad result is a tie to VCU (130).
However we only have a few quality wins: UCLA (19), Radford (32), Maryland (35), Xavier (46), Butler (50).
The ACC dominates the top 10 of the RPI with Wake, Clemson, and UNC sitting in the top 3 and ND 6th and Syracuse 10th. BC, UVA, and Louisville are also in the top 25. Those top 3 are pretty much all locks for top 4 seeds each with only 1 loss each and tons of quality wins with the ACC being so stacked.
We're basically fighting Akron, Stanford (4), and Creighton for the last #1 seed. Akron has the head to head win. A win over creighton will give us a top 10 win and a chance.
I agree we should be a top 8 seed, but it would be great to sneak into the top 4 and get that extra home game.

Anyway, seeing that, it's too darned bad that no one will take the preseason scrimmages into account, seeing as how we annihilated both Syracuse and UVA.

I already got my time off approved to go to the game tomorrow, otherwise I would've seriously considered handing my boss this:

Hoyas controlling the play. Creighton has no answer for the Hoyas' ability to keep possession and change direction.
One more goal would be very nice though.
