I don't think the issue is a lack of "forward thinking" at the moment. An endowed scholarship costs about $1 million. That kind of money is big enough to attract notice from Main Advancement, and steering that gift toward an athletic scholarship is generally not their top priority. Even within McDonough, there's enough current use needs (such as annual sustainment of non-endowed scholarships) that setting aside a cool million is a tough proposition.
Incoming this season is one James Marcinkowski, consensus top GK in the recruiting class. I think Tomas will have a worthy successor.

Endowed scholarships aren't required. To sell it as such is a shell game. There are some in Advancement who would want money like that to go to their project, especially when they don't get credit if it goes to Athletics. Georgetown has 29 sports. How many are full scholarships? Nine. campaign.wearegeorgetown.com/?page_id=13

Let's just start the countdown until DFW completes the full transition from a soccer thread to a football thread...

Let's just start the countdown until DFW completes the full transition from a soccer thread to a football thread... (You might be waiting a long while for that.) Only two named scholarships for men's soccer, both partial. Now is the time to get the soccer community to step forward. campaign.wearegeorgetown.com/?page_id=11

How many are full scholarships? Nine. campaign.wearegeorgetown.com/?page_id=13They're not required. Nothing is required. But they are the "capital project" of scholarships, which is usually what "forward thinking" refers to - structural, seminal changes, rather than just saying "let's increase our annual giving so we have more current-use dollars to put toward scholarships!" Duh, everyone wants that. But annual giving is also not always consistent, and if you see an increase one year, that doesn't mean you can just say "ok, we now have an extra scholarship or half-scholarship." Because annual giving might go down the following year, and then you're either stuck telling someone "no money for you this year" or it's hitting your recruiting. So, if your point boils down to "raise more current use dollars and put them toward scholarships," then I would double down that a lack of "forward thinking" is not the issue here. I already mentioned the issue of Advancement poaching, which is not inconsequential, but usually crops up only once the money gets enough that you are starting to approach the endowment (full or partial) level.

To add a little more on the scholarship topic... not sure if you've seen this page, DFW HOYA - I confess I hadn't seen it until today. What else is missing, to your mind, from a "forward thinking" perspective? One of the subpages provides more context:

Nice result. Beating Syracuse in anything, anywhere is good.

Just back from game with the Union. Hoyas lost 2-1 on a phantom penalty and a breakaway over the top against the run of play (while Yaro was resting).
Hoyas totally controlled play for most of the game. They play a beautiful brand of soccer and are eminently capable of winning it all this year.
Brandon Allen had Hoyas goal on beautiful finish on the move off a all over the top.
Harry saw his boys and stretched with the team afterwards.

So glad to hear the reports that the style of play continues even so early in the season and that we fared so well against a professional squad.

Wow.
Let's just go ahead and ramp the hype machine way up. Hard to know whether either or both teams did anything funky with playing time, but a 4-0 win over UVA (ranked second in the US) is a 4-0 win any way you slice it. And that was coming off a dominant performance at 15th ranked Syracuse.
We shall see after they play UCLA next weekend. A win there and they are the no doubt top team in the country.

Having seen them against the Union, albeit in an exhibition, this result is no surprise. This team is exceptionally talented and play beautiful soccer.
An NCAA championship is eminently attainable.
