www.bloggersodear.com/2015/7/30/9071773/wake-forest-basketball-recruiting-richard-washington-harry-giles-eli-wright-zach-norvellNorvell Likely to Visit Wake Forest
Talented 2016 SG prospect Zach Norvell mentioned to NBCsports.com this past week that he hopes to take an official visit to Wake Forest sometime after the July live period. Norvell is fresh off posting a 53 point, 14 3-pointers performance in one of his final AAU games of the summer for Mac Irvin Fire, which gained him widespread national attention and plenty of media praise. Norvell is more of a Combo Guard who can make plays off the dribble and set up teammates while still being a threat from deep. He’s a volume shooter who is dynamic on the offensive side of the ball and his 6’5 frame probably allows him to play the 2 or the 3 at the ACC level. I’ve mentioned before that it will be tough to pry him away from Illinois given that he is a Simeon High kid and has multiple friends on the Illini already, but John Groce being on the hot seat heading into this year might play into Wake’s favor. Setting up an official visit and making sure he takes a trip campus soon should be a priority for this staff, especially with competition for Eli Wright increasing seemingly by the day.I was happy to see the staff give the kid an offer, should have come sooner honestly.. Now they have to get him on campus as soon as possible, pending visits puts some amount of pressure/urgency on other prospects..

Glad to see we offered the kid; it would be great to have another shooter on the team.
Maybe I'm nitpicking, but from watching some of his videos (admittedly SSS) does anyone else have any concern about his release and being effective at the next level? Maybe it's just the particular videos/angles, but it seems his release is a little methodical and a little low. I'm wondering if he might have a harder time getting off his jumper against better/bigger competition at the next level. Even so, I'd rather have a kid like him who has already shown the talent/ability to make shots and just needs some tweaking on his mechanics.

So all this optimism in this thread about Norvell, is it based on anything more than just an assumption based on his naming us on his list of schools? Mostly an assumption based on him listing us before we really were that interested, the Hardy connections in that area, and the MeanStreets connection. Paul White tweeted about him even before we offered. Not saying we are leading, just that those are things going for us.

Think he has a solid college career prob not a star but very solid..

Henricksen: Illinois Tops in 2016 post-July
With the July dust all settled, this is what we’ve got when it comes to the Class of 2016 in Illinois …
■ It’s still a weak class with very little depth and a lack of overall top-level talent. This is the lowest amount of players from Illinois with Division I offers at this point than at any time in recent memory.
■ The recruiting stock of players in this class has dropped off more than it’s risen, which is so uncommon for the month of July when over-the-top offers are often thrown around. There are players in this class who (thought/think) they (have/had) certain schools interested in them who simply aren’t anymore
4. Zach Norvell, 6-5, 2G, Simeon Showed his toughness and character again by bouncing back from a tough opening week of July with an eye-opening effort in Las Vegas on the final weekend of the evaluation period. Big, strong-bodied guard who competes. While still streaky, Norvell remains a solid perimeter shooter and has range. With added offers from Georgetown and Oregon this week, Norvell is a player who knows, understands and is willing to do what it takes to help his team win.

The 6-foot-4 Norvell has since picked up offers from Oregon, Georgetown and Gonzaga, he said, in addition to existing offers from Illinois, DePaul, Bradley, Purdue, Loyola, Florida State, Oklahoma and Wake Forest. cComments Got something to say? Start the conversation and be the first to comment. Add a comment 0 He's the top shooting guard and among the top two-to-five recruits in the state in the Class of 2016, and while he has yet to narrow his list, Illinois appears to be a finalist. "Me and my dad haven't sat down yet to talk about what schools have to offer and evaluate the process," Norvell said. "We will soon. I know I'm going to take (at least) two officials, to Illinois and Oregon. I'm going to set those two up. I don't know what dates." One of Norvell's closest friends is also an Illinois target, but like Norvell, Morgan Park point guard Charlie Moore has a bevy of options after emerging from the summer as the No. 1 player in the state's incoming senior class. The Mac Irvin Fire teammates have been playing together since sixth grade, but if they wind up at the same college, it won't be as a package deal. "We talked about it early on in our career," Norvell said. "But as time went on we both want what's best for ourselves. Not that many schools need help at both (point and shooting guard)." www.chicagotribune.com/sports/ct-spt-0801-prep-basketball-recruiting-notes-20150731-story.html

I can think of one.

ilprepbullseye.com/Summer_Awards.htmlBest Individual Performance Of The Summer Zach Norvell 6'5 2016 2G Chicago (Simeon) Mac Irvin Fire 17-U -53 points vs Castle Knights at Bigfoot Classic in Las Vegas OK--we admit we were not in the building to see it when it happened. But in this case you didn't have to be. That is because it was a prolific performance that every basketball junkie became aware of instantly. We are talking about the effort turned in by Zach Norvell in the Mac Irvin Fire 17-Under squad's second round win over the Castle Knights in the platinum division championship bracket of the Bigfoot Classic in Las Vegas. Norvell simply turned in a game for the ages in that contest. He set a tournament scoring record by netting 53 points including 14 3-point field goals. One of his trifectas came from NBA range, as it was from behind the court's volleyball line, to which Norvell drew an outstanding ovation. Needless to say, the Rancho High School gym was rocking throughout. Norvell was also a strong contender for our Player Of The Summer honors and here's the thing--his outing in Vegas should come as no surprise to those who have watched him on a consistent basis. After all, Norvell has become a completely different player this Spring and Summer in comparison with a year ago. Above all else, he has been more aggressive at both ends of the floor and has demonstrated far better shot selection and decision-making. As a result, Norvell has gone from a player who at one time we regarded as a mid-major prospect to one who can undoubtedly play at the high major level. This is reflected in Norvell's recruitment, as he currently holds scholarship offers from Illinois, Purdue, Oklahoma, Memphis, DePaul, Florida State, Georgetown and Oregon among others. His performance in Vegas will remain memorable for quite some time and is simply one that summers are made of.

Norvell yet to set visits: The state's only other high-major guard, Simeon's Zack Norvell, said Wednesday he has yet to set up any official visits. Moore's backcourt mate on the Mac Irvin Fire and rival in the Public League Red South, Norvell said last month he plans to visit Illinois and Oregon but has not scheduled those trips. Norvell said Bradley, DePaul, Florida State, Georgetown, Gonzaga, Loyola, Memphis, Oklahoma, Purdue and Wake Forest have also offered the 6-4 lefty. Norvell and Moore are close friends and both have Illinois on their lists, but don't plan to visit together. www.chicagotribune.com/sports/highschool/ct-spt-0820-prep-basketball-recruiting-notes-20150819-story.html
