Check out the following article to see similarities with S. Miller coaching this USA team: www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/2015/4/2/8325877/john-calipari-recruiting-karl-anthony-towns-kentucky-dominican-republicCalipari got Towns. Coach K got his championship. Now, Miler has a shot at J.J., Giles and/or Tatum, the top 3 ranked 2016 players. Calipari's former coach at Kentucky and now coach of USF is the head coach of the Dominican Republic team. Now, Rick Pitino is getting into the game as he's the new coach of the Puerto Rico senior national team and, just like Calipari, he oversees the full national team program with access to all of the up and coming players of the youth teams.

General Thoughts on Team USA: - Probably because there's no time to get cohesion, Team USA has no real offense. I think I saw one play in the first three quarters that looked like anything was really planned. Lots of poorly run weave. The team was wildly ineffective at scoring in the half court. No one on this team can shoot from the outside -- Brunson hit one nice step back three, but other than that, LJ's wide open three attempt from the corner was the next best shot. And he missed it. They don't even really look like they know where to send the ball on offense. The bigs aren't much better -- lots of easy opportunities and a very low shooting percentage.
- Team USA won so easily by doing two things. One, they stayed in it early with some good D and because Iran wasn't big enough to not foul our bigs. Tons of FTs for team USA. After the starting lineup went out, Iran went on a run and took a lead. Some of the starting lineup came back in, including LJ, and suddenly Iran couldn't bring the ball up. Tons of turnovers led to some easy baskets and tons of FTs. But nearly all of Team USA's points were in transition or from the line.
- Brunson is very steady for a HSer. He wasn't spectacular and didn't really get a lot of people involved, but you can tell he's going to be good.
- Josh Jackson and Justin Bibbs (Va Tech) led much of the turnover forcing. Jackson in particular was a force. Neither has much idea what to do on offense, especially Bibbs. But you can see why people think a lot of Jackson. Jawun Evans and Peak also contributed a lot here on D.
- Harry Giles was a ton of energy down low, drew a ton of fouls and was just generally very active. He's also a huge project on offense -- he's the one shooting his FTs underhand. But he outplayed Onuaku and the other bigs despite that to my mind.
- Jayson Tatum was not overly impressive to me. Is 2016 a weak class?
Specifically on Peak: - You can tell he's one of the college players. He was one of the few not overgambling on defense -- which worked against Iran but might not against better teams. He was one of the few to get back in transition team. He found his spots on the floor and he was clearly not going to get his. In a game where the ball rarely got passed, Peak was running the offense without much thought to his own points.
- However, the offense was so bad it's tough to get a read. Peak only touched the ball twice in the first quarter on offense -- once after a steal, and once after he rebounded it. Both were on breaks. Otherwise, no one passed him the ball on offense. It got better, but man, you'd kind of like to see some Norman Dale there especially since the US struggled to score in the halfcourt.
- He didn't hit his three, was inconsistent on FTs and didn't convert on his drives. That's the bad. He also probably could have gotten 4-5 more steals which better aggression and quicker hands. Again, I don't know if those opportunities are really there when you aren't playing Iran, but they were there today. He didn't try for many rebounds, either getting back in transition D or trying to leak out on the break.
- He has a great stance on D, played great D. Some steals, and forced a few more. Didn't get beat off the dribble. Tried to take two big help charges and got a no call and missed bucket on one and got called for a bad block on another. Undoubtedly the most solid perimeter defender on the team if Jackson is the most explosive.
- Offensively, I enjoyed his smart plays. He drove hard when he saw a lane. He got into position for open threes even if no one ever found him (or did once). He pressed the issue on the fast break when the US was in the bonus, getting to the line. He didn't force much expect on a break in the third where he almost lost control -- but he didn't, and drove the lane and dished for an easy dunk.
- All in all thought, I'd have to agree. Not seeing a step change yet. But also, it's important to note that offensively, this team has no clue in the half court. It's impossible to get a really good idea of where he is.

My concern with LJ is the same concern that I had with Copland and White. One day, they look like they are sensational and then they disappear. Hopefully the three of them can develop the consistency that will be needed this year.

LJ has barely played with 10 min left in the 3rd. Less than 3 minutes with only 1 steal and no shot attempts. Hopefully he's just resting his ankle, plus the game is under control.

LJ was distributing and heading to the other side right after the pass. He was not involved (not in the TV screen) for rebounds and that must be per instructions.

My take. I watched the whole game against Croatia. LJ seemed to be visibly discouraged. There is very little passing going on. It is one on one and if the player is double teamed or cannot shoot, then he passes. This is very different from the way LJ has been coached. He hardly touched the ball at all in this game.

LJ did a lot of nice things in this game. Knocked down a nice 3, took the ball to the hole. You can tell he's one of the only players that plays at the college level. Hustles back on defense, gets others involved. On offense kind of lags out on the perimeter. Wish he played a little more selfish but that's not Georgetown basketball. Players that have impressed me are Tatum, Brunson, and Giles. Trier is fairly solid and athletic but plays like it's an AAU game.

I saw the 3 and the drive early on the game, but have not finished it. Did LJ do anything else of note later on?

Today is the first elimination game and the Round of 16.
Hopefully the US keeps winning so LJ can find his groove. I know he isn't meshing well with the style of offense being played but a key for him this next season will be consistency.
