6’8 Forward out of VA, plays with Diakite
Aamir Simms, 6'8" F, Blue Ridge Class: 2017 AAU: Team Loaded VA 16U
The Skinny: A multi-faceted forward with prodigious talent, Simms simply does it all. He was a catalyst in Team Loaded VA's 16-Under squad reaching the Championship game at the Southern Jam Fest, playing with energy galore the entire tournament. Colleges are seeing the total package and enormous upside with Hofstra being the first to offer, while Georgetown and Notre Dame are starting to get involved in recruiting him.
Long with the ability to cover multiple spots and get to rebounds just about anywhere, Simms did a great job of closing out on a shooter as well as being a two-way factor by running the floor. Right now, he's an efficient scorer, but could develop into more of a bona-fide threat at putting the ball in the hole. In my eyes, Simms has made that jump from mid-major to high-major, and those that venture into the Blue Ridge gym next winter won't be there just to see Mamadi Diakite

6’8” Sophomore Aamir Simms (Blue Ridge- VA) PLAYER: Aamir Simms CLASS: 2017 HIGH SCHOOL TEAM: Blue Ridge School (St. George, VA) HIGH SCHOOL STATISTICS: 7 Points, 6 Rebounds, 2 Assists per game AAU PROGRAM: Team Loaded Virginia THOUGHTS ON SIMMS: Aamir Simms is definitely a player that coaches need to keep a close eye on this coming weekend at the David Rose Memorial Day Classic. A few months back, Phenom Hoop Report traveled to Petersburg, VA to scout the VISAA State Tournament at Virginia State University. Going into the event, Simms was a player we were very familiar with. We knew he could play, but we were eager to see how he would perform against some of the state’s toughest competition. After just a few short minutes, we immediately knew this kid was a baller. Simms is a very athletic player with an absurd amount of potential. He has great size, beautiful touch, and phenomenal footwork for a player his age. On offense, the 6’8” rising junior is electric. He literally gets the job done at all angles. If he isn’t bullying opponents deep in the post, Simms uses his versatility to get open and bury mid-range jump shots. His post moves are out of this world. Whether it’s a smooth up and under, or a finessed skyhook, chances are Simms is dropping buckets. On defense, Simms is an opponent’s nightmare. His lengthy body and extraordinarily high basketball IQ cause endless problems for opposing offenses. He rebounds well, hustles hard, and makes his presence known every time he steps foot on the floor. He’s the type of player that no one wants to match up with. After a sensational regular season and winning a state title, Simms was invited to our first annual Virginia Top 80 Camp. He was outstanding. Throughout the course of the afternoon, Simms worked hard to make to give himself a slight advantage. He was a fierce competitor with a great amount of mental toughness and determination. As the weekend progresses, expect Simms to play a very important role for his Team Loaded squad. If he can perform to the best of his ability and take control on offense, we wouldn’t be surprised if this behemoth led his team to Sunday afternoon’s title game. Best of luck, big fella! www.phenomhoopreport.com/news_article/show/517833?referrer_id=1555437

Simms, Longpre, JJ, and Rafus… All around 6’9, versatile. It’s early but Hoyas looking in solid shape with all four.

"Georgetown recently contacted me, Notre Dame, UVA and a couple other schools," noted Simms. "I try not to focus on that to mess up my game. I just play the game because I know they're going to call regardless."
This weekend, Simms will take a visit to Georgetown. The Hoyas are one of three schools standing out to him.
"Georgetown, UVA and Notre Dame are my top three schools because I like how they play. It's never about, 'I, I, I,' but 'we, we, we.' Everybody plays as a team," Simms commented.

I know I certainly wouldn't have at that age...

Now, Simms is shining on the AAU circuit with Team Loaded. Just last weekend, he led Team Loaded 16U to the finals of the Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest, one of the more prestigious non-live period events every season. What's next for the talented 6-foot-8 forward? From our seat, it should be a heightened recruitment. Picture below is of Aamir Simms Simms has consistently been one of Virginia's top sophomore performers over the past year Why? There aren't many players of his height and stature that can do what he does, regardless of class and age. Owning a broad frame and very long arms, Simms brings an exciting mix of physical attributes and skill to the floor. And he's becoming more athletic, too. Simms can shoot the ball out to the 3-point arc, he can score with his back to the rim, and he can play from the mid and high-post. Additionally, he's a very good passing forward, he rebounds the ball extremely well, particularly in his area, and he handles the ball well enough to lead a break. Even more importantly is that Simms just has an awesome natural feel for the game. Hofstra appears to be ahead of the curve on this recruitment, as they extended an offer earlier this spring, which was Simms' first. Others at a higher level, however, are getting involved. Georgetown has expressed interest in Simms since the high school season, and the Hoyas are ramping it up a bit lately, as is Notre Dame. UVA is also keeping tabs on him.
Simms mentioned UVA and Georgetown as the two schools that appeal to him most currently, but he was very quick to point out that any collegiate opportunity would be a blessing. www.vantagehoops.com/news_article/show/517528?referrer_id=1178989

One of the hotter names coming out of the first live viewing period was 2017 combo forward Aamir Sims from Virginia. A slender 6-foot-8 combo forward with quickness and athleticism, he showed why he is on many high-major boards. He has touch shooting the ball, is quick around the rim and has a great motor. Cincinnati, VCU, UCF, Richmond, Hofstra, Penn State, Old Dominion and Virginia Tech have all offered while Florida, Wake Forest, Virginia, Georgetown, Xavier, Butler and West Virginia are taking looks.
