I am sorry I must have missed all of our great "kente clad" triumphs. We went from 1989 to 2007 without a BET largely during the kente era. We went from 1985-2007 without a Final Four largely during the kente era. Listen, at the end of the day it really doesn't matter but there is nothing about kente that reminds this long time fan of success. Feel free to belittle my opinion as you wish. What tortured logic. What DOES remind you of long term success and could be incorporated into the court design? Among other things, Jack the Bulldog or something reflective of the University.

Listen, at the end of the day it really doesn't matter but there is nothing about kente that reminds this long time fan of success. Feel free to belittle my opinion as you wish. A) It's not your opinion. It's the logic you're using to defend it. We had success wearing those unis ('96 and '13 were 2 of the most successful all-time GU teams), just not a national title. So by that logic I'm assuming you'd keep Sleepy, Mourning, Mutombo, Iverson, Hibbert, and Green off any court designs, too? B) The "kente era" was pretty much from '94-'96 and returned from '12-'14 (maybe a few more years if you count small kente accents -- www.hoyabasketball.com/history/jerseys.htm). Those 4 seasons alone included future NBA'ers Iverson, Othella, JYD, Don Reid, Jahidi, and Otto. I'm not sure if I like it, or even why we put it on our unis in the first place... but it's really the only identifiable thing about our uniform history to anyone outside the GU fanbase. (OK, maybe the Terminators - but I don't think you can put those on the court.) Indiana has their candy stripes, UNC their argyle, and maybe a few others. We have kente.

Seems to me the right side "Hoyas" should be facing in the opposite direction. Is the "G" at center court bigger than the current "G" at center court?

I think at the very least they should have switched up the center court design to something other than the G. I submitted a kente cloth design with the classic bulldog logo in the center. I think it was important to offer a clean and conservative yet slightly different view to have any chance of winning this contest. I just thought they'd switch it up a tiny bit more. Huge let down for all the people that got creative and fired up about this. Oh well.

1. The Hoyas logos were asked to be flipped to both being in the same direction—we'll see how they paint it, I can go either way.
2. New court's G is designed to be bigger than recent memory—2013 had a gray-filled circle circumscribing a G, 2014-15 court had a bigger G (circumference was size of the center circle--see jack's skateboard video) with no outer gray circle. This new one has the center circle outline about half way between inner circumference and outer part of the G. Again, not a huge change and we'll see how they paint it but something I worried about.
3. The kente was always a player favorite (and recruits!). I liked ideas of grey floors and watermarked bulldogs that I made, but I played with dozens of designs, got fan/alumni feedback, and figured that traditional look was the best. Then I saw how I could tweak it a little with the lane (even though there appears to be unenforced rules against multiple colored lanes). My first kente lanes were weak. I tried gray kente, dark gray kente (supposed to be blue), and then figured out how to make a true navy kente. Word is that the guys in McDonough liked the navy blue kente the best.
4. I've not been really happy with the court's blue colors for years (too light a blue key and border). We are navy—specifically an RGB value of 1.30.65. Some of it could be lighting but I hope the darker blue comes out nicely.
5. The boundary lines of the new court are gray. Obviously not a big change (and one I'm not married to) but I wanted more gray on the court rather than just blue and white (I.e., Villanova and butler who wear blue on away games). In fact I used no white on the court besides the big east logo which had specific rules. I love our grey and hope we get the right color on there.
So while the court may be too "traditional" to some or ignorant of true Hoya history to others, I'm happy with how I put together some improvements on our recent courts, stayed true to our colors, logos, and history, and introduced a touch that is both new and a throwback at the same time.
This is far from a work of art, but it's ridiculous to think I just slapped it together merely based on prior courts or that coach and the AD chose it with a blind fold on.

I can take the critiques—I even posted several courts on here and got feedback from you guys before submitting—but don't waste your breath saying it's not creative (for a basketball court)

Lots of folks equate creative with in your face and over the top -- it takes just as much creativity to come up with something that speaks to the traditional while integrating something new. I think the new court strikes an excellent balance -- job well done. I'm excited to see it.

Great job Whip. My read on it is as stated - a tasteful combination of tradition and fresh perspective.

Anyone who doesn't like the kente cloth can go eat their hot dogs with ketchup.

Maybe its not "creative", but its a hell of a lot better than some of the other "creative" court ideas. Seems a lot of successful programs win on simple-classic designs. Seems like a lot of less successful programs feel the need for "creative" designs to generate excitement. Not saying we are at the level of a UK or Duke, but I'd certainly like to believe we are closer to them than the San Jose States and Oaklands of the world.
For the record, I am as agnostic about kente as I am about the 30 second shot clock.

No offense, whipple, but I just see this whole thing as a wasted opportunity as well as a waste of time. Your work looks fine but it is more of a tweak than an actual new design IMO. What was the point? I was hoping from the start that III and Co would go with a grey court. That would stand out. Something fresh and different. Instead it feels like we got almost the same thing we already had.
