Ugh, seriously? I like the simple design, so long as what is playing on top of it is worth watching.

Yeah do not want them to change the court.

No, a court change would be welcome. Gotta keep up with everyone else...

The odds that the redesign will make it worse are likely high but one can hope.

I really dislike this sort of thing, but the University could do a lot worse than a subtle silhouette of the DC monuments/skyline.

The skyline silhouette thing is very "en vogue" right now. Its one of those trends that everyone will look back a decade or two from now and go "we thought that was cool? what the hell?"

Blue court, gray inside the arc, wood inside the paint. Gray center circle. Blue/gray outlined G.

Why does the template include the NBA lane lines? Our current court does not have them.

Touche KC. Not exactly what I had pictured, but close enough. Cross it off the list.

I think the new court needs some fireballs. 1, 2, or 3 ought to be sufficient.

I would keep the baselines the same but flip the color scheme, blue text on gray background. Key painted gray to match the baseline as current. Inside the arc outside the paint is blue. Top of the key stays wood.
Move the Big East logo to between the arc and half court so you can keep the red in the conference logo and make that more visible (seriously is that the BE logo just inside the stripe, I'm not even sure). Don't know what you replace the Big East logo just inside the foul line with then, though; maybe Hoya one side, Saxa other side, in a similar font to baseline Georgetown.
I think you leave the G at half court alone, unless you want to bring back the old Jack face logo, then we can talk.

There's no skyline, I think that's the Hornets court from the 90's (well before the skyline fad). I think SD is just providing an example of the phenomenon he mentioned where something is very en vogue for a time but looks stupid in retrospect. In the 90s the sort of "MS Paint" filling in of the area between the 3 point line and the lane was popular, as were the Hornets purple and teal colors. But in hindsight it's a little much. Even worse was when they had the honeycomb in the paint: i.ytimg.com/vi/LzLl2zCA4ho/0.jpgI'm OK with a new court design but do hope we keep it somewhat subdued (and considering JT3 is making the final decision I don't suspect that will be an issue). I think the louder and splashier court designs like at Oregon are OK in an on-campus arena. But in an NBA arena, it may seem a little forced. The appeal of the NBA arena, theoretically, is that you're offering players a chance to play under the bright lights and in atmosphere that resembles a professional setting. I don't think a more gimmicky court design aligns with that. It will be fun to see what kind of submissions people come up with, but in the end the best bet is probably something that's not too far outside of the main stream--something that an NBA team would play on, not a Horizon League team.

Yep, that was the point I was trying to make RB. The filling the area inside the arc thing was everywhere for a while, until it became clear how ugly that design was. Also, the basketball as the foul line thing. Woof. NBA courts have mainly gone back to simple designs, and I see no reason we should instead follow the Oregons or GWs or San Jose States of the world (seriously, google that one, dear god its bad).
