Hype or not, Mullin and his assistants have put together a remarkable recruiting class, especially considering their starting point. It will take some time for these kids to gel, but he does have a couple of immediately eligible transfers to accompany his freshmen. The PG position is particularly intriguing. The Big East needs a revitalized SJU team to maximize our visibility and legitimacy. I hope Mullin and SJU do well this year and in years to come.

Love this section of the story:
Jordan and Obekpa likely would have been preseason first-team All-Big East selections and potential NBA drafts picks. They had experience on their side. But Jordan wouldn’t have been eligible for the first semester because of academic problems and Obekpa, after initially being on board, opted to transfer to UNLV. Neither was comfortable in Mullin’s demanding and rigorous schedule for his players where discipline and accountability — not talent — is valued first. “There’s a reason it went that way,” Mullin said, taking the high road.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to the hype train that develops for Marcus Lovett there when he puts some people on sportscenter with his handling and passing.

OT but ORIGINAL STORY The University of Louisville is looking into salacious allegations in a new book that say a former Cards basketball staffer paid escorts thousands of dollars to have sexual relations with both players and recruits during his time at the university. The book in question is set to be released as soon as Saturday by Indianapolis-based IBJ Book Publishing LLC, the IBJ said. It alleges that a former director of basketball operations, Andre McGee "paid an escort service for four years to provide sex to teenage recruits to help woo the players to join the Cardinals team." McGee was on the U of L staff for four years before joining former Louisville assistant Kareem Richardson's staff at UMKC. Powerful Louisville attorney Scott Cox is counseling McGee, according to U of L spokesman Kenny Klein. www.todaysu.com/big-east-today/big-east-basketballl-ranking-top-10-big-east-small-forwards/1 Hart 2 Blueitt 3 Jones BU 4 Peak While we have seen some star appeal in the backcourt with the point guards and shooting guards of the Big East, when we get to the frontcourt the talent kind of seems to wane. That’s not to say, the players listed here are chopped liver. Quite the contrary. There is some great wing talent at the top mixed in with some intriguing players stepping into a new opportunity. So, there’s room for growth among the ten players listed here. What you will read here is a ranking of each of the Big East team’s projected starting small forwards from 10-1. Granted, there will be some fluidity with what players will play what positions, as some can play both forward spots, while some could also play at shooting guard. 4. L.J. Peak, Sophomore, Georgetown Another player who was detailed in my breakouts column, Peak is ready to leave his imprint on this conference, as he possesses a versatile hodgepodge of skills. He is coming off a season in which he averaged 7.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. Peak also participated in the FIBA U19 World Championships and gained valuable experience there. Expect him to be big time scorer for John Thompson III and company.

www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/11940Who to Watch: If Carter is not running the show, Duane Wilson will be. The 6-2 sophomore averaged 2.1 assists per game last season, but he is better suited to play off the ball where he can concentrate on his shooting. Wilson averaged 11.9 points per game as a freshman and he could be in for a huge year if he does not have to worry about running the point all of the time. Jajuan Johnson is the most experienced swingman on the team after averaging 7.3 points as a sophomore. The newcomers will certainly push him for minutes though, especially if his outside shooting does not improve. Sandy Cohen has a nice shooting touch and could earn minutes at the small forward spot as well. Luke Fischer, a 6-11 center, is the best of the retuning players. Last year he was eligible after the first semester after transferring in from Indiana. Once he was eligible, Fischer was constantly double teamed because he was the only guy on the team over 6-7. Despite all of that attention, Fisher averaged 11.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks. Now that Ellenson will be by his side, the Marquette frontcourt will be extremely tough to stop. Projected Starting Five: Traci Carter, Freshman, Guard, DNP last season Duane Wilson, Sophomore, Guard, 11.9 points per game Jajuan Johnson, Junior, Guard, 7.3 points per game Henry Ellenson, Freshman, Forward, DNP last season Luke Fischer, Junior, Center, 11.0 points per game By the Numbers: Scoring Offense: 65.1 (229th in nation, 10th in conference) Scoring Defense: 67.0 (180, 6) Field-Goal Percentage: 43.7 (159, 6) Field-Goal Defense: 42.6 (160, 6) Three-Point Field Goals Per Game: 6.5 (162, 5) Three-Point Field-Goal Percentage: 34.4 (169, 9) Free-Throw Percentage: 43.7 (159, 6) Rebound Margin: -4.6 (321, 9) Assists Per Game: 15.0 (35, 3) Turnovers Per Game: 12.6 (178, 8)

I bet Marquette is better than the #46 team in the country next year.
Fisher's a nice player, Ellenson will be a star; it will just matter if any of the guards can step up.
