It's funny how bright Ben Cherington was two short years ago, when the Red Sox won the World Series, and how dumb he is now.

Makes you wonder how many of Ben's decisions were actually his, doesn't it?

You make it sound like hiring Dombrowskiis a bad thing. Your interpretation, not mine. They've needed to blow this up for awhile and I think his hiring is a positive move. The press release timing was interesting, that's all. I guess I was reading something in to your use of the word "strategic"

Watching the Nats soil the sheets is so rewarding. Took Harry to Phils/Nats doubleheader earlier this summer. He asked Idiot Matt Williams for an autograph 40 min before the game. Williams snarled "not now".
Stick it in your ear Matt. Not many autograph requests on the unemployment line.

Blowing a 7-1 lead is probably the final nail in the coffin for the Nationals 2015 season!! It's probably better that they don't make the playoffs because their bullpen is terrible and would probably blow multiple games against the Dodgers or whatever team they would've faced this year in the playoffs. No need for another excruciating playoff loss like Game 5 against St.Louis in 2012 or Game 2 against San Francisco last year in which the bullpen turns a sure win into a loss!! The Nationals still have a lot of good pieces in place to be be very good again in 2016 and the division will probably be terrible again too with Atlanta, Miami and Philadelphia in a heated race for 100 losses!!

I love how Mets fans are like, "This is so great. It's been so long since our team had success/made the playoffs."
Try being a Royals fan the past 30 years.

I hear you KC, but as a Met fan I did endure the back to back collapses of 2007 and 2008.
Those kind of gags are scar makers, believe me.

I'm with Elvado on this. Notwithstanding those epic collapses, I also endured the antics of the 1992 and 1993 Mets, led by Bobby Bonilla, Vince Coleman, and Bret Saberhagen. It was almost enough to make one swear off the sport entirely. I still don't believe what I've been watching for the past seven weeks.
If the Nationals loss to the Mets Monday night, in which the bullpen blew a 5-3 lead in the seventh inning, was the functional equivalent of a kick in the solar plexus, last night's debacle was the functional equivalent of a kick in the testicles. A failure by Mike Rizzo to make a managerial change, at season's end if not beforehand, will be an indication of tone-deafness to the Nats' fan base.

As a Nats fan I've been appalled by Williams' ineptitude. Having said that injuries, disappointing seasons by key players and Mike Rizzo are equally to blame. Nats just haven't been a good team this year - and man I think the Mets are actually very good. Not like nats are handing team over to some crappy team. Mets could make some serious noise in October.

There's a LOT more wrong with the Nationals than Matt Williams. He might be the scapegoat for the team's debacle this season, but whether he's fired or not isn't the only concern real Nats fans have. Pitching, hitting, fielding and team health have all been problems throughout the season. Rizzo has some heavy lifting to do if he wants to keep this team competitive.

Funny how you guys leave out almost making it to the World Series in 1999 and 2006, and making it there in 2000. Some success is better than no success.

We don't grade on a curve. Not when you have all of those smug Yankees fans reminding you of their team's success on a daily basis. It would probably be viewed much differently if the Mets were the only team in town.

Blah, blah, blah, Mets fans. Go to Chicago if you want to experience real baseball fan suffering. Or Cleveland.
At least the White Sox finally won before my dad passed, thank goodness.

The Nationals bullpen(for the most part) has just blown another game against the Mets as Drew Storen gives up a 2-run homer in the 8th inning. The game is still going on, but the Nationals have no shot at winning this. I'm not sure what Drew Storen's contract situation is, but he needs to be put out of his misery and start fresh with a new team. I hope he can redeem himself with his new team next year because he's been the losing pitcher in some devastating losses in Nationals history. I just checked the schedule and the Nationals still have 15 games left with the Phillies, Braves and Marlins. It's possible that they could go 12-3 or 13-2 against those teams and make a late run at the Mets to end the season.

I spent three years in Cleveland, arriving just after the NHL put the Barons out of business and merged the team with the North Stars. I endured three seasons of lousy Indians baseball with Jeff Torborg managing (or mismanaging, as the case may be). On top of the putrid Ted Stepien-owned Cavaliers and the the original edition of the Browns, before Art Modell moved the team to Baltimore and broke hearts in the Rust Belt. I wholeheartedly agree that being a pro sports fan in Northern Ohio is a punishment that no one deserves, even after the return of LeBron James to the Cavs. I still have a soft spot in my heart for those teams, and for my midwestern friends who live and die with each season. But let us Mets fans enjoy this season without criticism.

Stick a fork in the Nats. They are done. MW should be done as well.

I should've looked at the Mets schedule before posting that. But the Mets did struggle with the Marlins last weekend while the Nationals swept the Braves and pulled within 4 games. That's what gave the Nationals hope before this series started. But it's now evident that the Mets own the Nationals and would probably sweep them again if the series at the end of the season was for the division. What's the Mets winning streak against the Nationals now?? It's at least 6.

Matt Williams is a certifiable moron . Storen looked like he was going to crap his pants out there. Anyone else in his pen or a gassed Strasburg was a better choice.
He might actually have brain damage.
