Guess you can't blame him - plus Tennessee has been down lately, so he would get a few years to try to build.

That wouldn't be a great look for the league. Hope it doesn't happen.

Much speculation about whether Holtmann is simply using Tennessee for contract leverage with Butler. That's my guess, too.
He was, one year ago today, an assistant coach. He didn't become Butler's interim head coach until October. He didn't become their head coach, officially, until a few months ago. Yes, he did a tremendous job. . .with someone else's players. He hasn't any recruiting record as a head coach, and hasn't really put any imprint of his own on the program for an extended period of time.
If Chris Holtmann makes the move to Tennessee after this minimal time period, good for him and good (financially) for his family. I don't think that this would be a massive hit on the conference. Conversely, if Chris Mack were to make the same move to Tennessee at this juncture, that would be a very big hit conference-wise.

Hurts their recruiting and further solidifies the idea that Butler is a way station that has to year after year worry about losing their coach while hurting recruiting. This is the likely scenario that would befall Georgetown if the anti Thompson group and their agenda is able to push out the Thompsons and wreck the program.

Good news for him, for Butler and for the Big East. Holtman signs extension. Chris Mullin takes over SJU. Wojo - like him or not - was/is good news for the conference, as is his first recruiting class. I think things are looking up for the BE after a really good year, and somewhat disappointing NCAA Tournament.

Good for the Big East to be able to keep an up and coming young coach. Will help the stability and growth of the conference.
Some posters seem to overlook the fact that the new configuration of the BE is a work in progress. It will take 5 years before the conference - and FoxSports1 for that matter - can really be evaluated. I believe both will be bigger and stronger by then.

Only downer is that DePaul hiring! I really hope the Mullin hire works out for St John's......could end up a huge success or an epic disaster if he doesn't recruit well/coach well. Glad Holtmann stuck around though....if he can recruit, Butler should be good for as long as he is there.

DePaul--a program so depressing that even a mediocre retread coaching hire has upside!
