Mullin press conference streaming live in 5 mins on espn3. Also being shown on FS1. Huge media attention for a new hire Is the Dave Leitao press conference also streaming on both?

Honorable mention: "No coach in America knows New York City better than Mullin." Not bad, considering Mullin has lived on the West Coast for 27 years. ajerseyguy.com/?p=12134

I saw Mullin at a basketball event last summer in Brezzy Point Queens last summer, so he he will figure out what he needs to pretty quickly asI think he's actually in NY quite a bit. St Johns has gotten more publicity with this hire than they've had since at least the Artest era. Nobody really knows how he'll do at the end of the day buy to think that he really will have any difficulty accessing top talent around nyc is ridiculous. One thing going for him I think at least is that he seems pretty passionate about what he has to do and is ready to work hard. I think a lot of celeb hires in similar positions have difficulty(ala Phil Jackson with the Knicks), when they don't put in the hard work. I really don't see that with Mullin, as I think this is more than just a job to him.
I also think that one of the things that he may be able to do well recruiting wise, given his NBA connections, is go after international recruits. If he is successful there, he may be able to upgrade the talent level more quickly than people think.
I hope he is successful as success for St. Johns can help the media perception of the BE a lot--and hopefully make for some more interesting games with Gtwn.

Agree, this is more than just a job for Mullin. He has passion for it, and combined with his ability, I think he will do a good job there. He already has a top recruiting assistant signed and would anyone be shocked if they land Diallo? Mullin will have all the alumni and boosters support for several years, I could see NYC kids feeling a bit like traitors if they did not get on board early in this tenure. I honestly feel very bullish about this hire.

What would also lead to a surge in publicity would be if Mullin tried his old Kings boss 4-on-5 defense. He was a huge part of the Kings brain trust so I assume he got all the intricacies while he was there.

Somewhat ironic that, for MSG's two basketball tenants (yes, I'm excluding the Liberty from this discussion), the pro team is counting on an experienced coach who is learning how to be a general manager, and the college team will be counting on an experienced general manager who will be learning how to be a coach. How about if Phil Jackson and Chris Mullin trade jobs? Both the Knicks and Red Storm might be better off.

The Mullin press conference is well worth a watch. He said all the right things and his NY accent was out in full form. I think the fans are eating it up.

It feels like they just drafted Dan Marino, Emmitt Smith, and Randy Moss for their fantasy football squad.

Mullin has impressed me so far. He seems to really understand the importance of recruiting. He made a great first hire in Abdelmassih and they've offered a bunch of kids already per twitter.
Some rumors floating around about UK assistant Rohrssen, Diallo, Obekpa/Jordan coming back. Who knows how much will actually shake out, but it's an interesting time for St. John's.

I believe you have some SJU family ties - what is their reaction? My brother (who attend SJU law school) at a time when Mullin was actually playing, is absolutely ecstatic. He has been longing for a ray of hope for such a long time. He was slightly hopeful when Lavin got hired, but that faded quickly. But with Mullin, it's a totally different feeling.

Obekpa is returning.
That's probably the least important of all the things that need to start falling into place for SJU (Diallo, Jordan, Sampson/LoVett/other FR, Xfers to salvage 15-16), but it's a good start.
I'm sure they'll do well recruiting the '16 class, but they can't waste an entire season next year at the bottom of the BE - which is where they'd be right now.

I'm going to love hating these guys again. Lavin had no issues bringing in good players either. The question is if Mullin is good enough of a coach to get good players to play to their ability/potential.
