Looks like they're favorites for LoVett and they just wrangled free from a previous 2/3-star commit. So far, so good. They're still gonna be hot garbage in '15-'16, but if they get Heron and assorted other top-50 kids in '16 -- watch out. NYC, you do know they are said to be getting both Rysheed Jordan and Chris Obekpa back next season too, right? They have also signed four Three stars for 2015 and are still after more kids who would be eligible right away. No doubt, the following season will see a much stronger lineup, but leading shot blocker Obekpa and former 5 star guard Jordan are a couple of key pieces for next year's team. Jordan and Obekpa might help them keep things respectable in the OOC schedule, but BE competition will be another story. Jordan's a mess. Plus - I imagine Mullin's pitch to keep him was "Here are the keys to the car for next season. Show us and the NBA what you got." How could that go wrong?? As for Obekpa -- if Diallo signs, they're gonna to block a ton of shots... and lose a ton of atrocious, 42-38 games. If Diallo doesn't... that's 2 big swing & misses for 2015, and the cupboard is still pretty bare going into '16-'17, no matter who they sign. Best case for this year looks a lineup of Jordan, LoVett, JC kid, Diallo, Obekpa and a whole lot of nothing on the bench (maybe a GR transfer? another 3-star?). That team doesn't get 6 wins in conference. And my guess is Jordan isn't on the roster in March. Worst case (No LoVett? No Diallo? No anybody else of note this year?) -- almost certainly the worst team in the Big East.

The current "Worst Case" for St. John's for 2015-2016 is far better than it would have been under Lavin. It's going to take Mullin some time, but he seems to be primed to put a great team on the court in 2-3 seasons.

Clearly your opinion of Rysheed Jordan isn't very high if even the best case scenario for next year doesn't have him making it through the entire season

I also think he's a bit of a wildcard with one foot in the league. And when the season starts going to pot and everyone complains that he's taking 21 shots/g... it could come to a head. Bottom line is I just don't think they're gonna be good with or without Jordan and Obekpa this year.

Good pickup for SJU. Probably makes sense to move this stuff to the offseason thread at this point - no longer about Mullin's hiring.

Diallo to Kansas.
So we're waiting for year 3 for this team to be good, huh?

The Johnnies pick up a 4 star guard recruit - incoming frosh. nypost.com/2015/05/21/st-johns-coup-mullin-lands-highly-touted-bright-lights/www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/st-john-basketball-lands-chicago-pg-marcus-lovett-article-1.2230367ExcerptsLoVett is the seventh player to commit to St. John’s since Mullin was announced as head coach April 1. He is the third freshman along with combo guard Malik Ellison and forward/center Yankuba Sima. The Storm also brings in transfers Durand Jonson from Pitt, Darien Williams from City College of San Francisco, Ron Mvouika from Missouri State and Tariq Owens of Tennessee. Owens will have to sit the coming season under NCAA transfer rules.
There could be one more guard to join the group: Italian Federico Mussini is weighing a decision of whether to attend college in the United States or play professionally back home. St. John’s, which has one open scholarship for next season, is the heavy favorite if he chooses the college route.--------------- Despite the late start, Mullin is putting together an impressive roster. I also believe Rysheed will be a different player under Coach Chris, or he'll be riding the pine. My guess is still that SJU will surprise this year and be a lot better than most are expecting, especially later in the season.

Different coach, same St Johns... smh From the way their staff kept recruiting guards it makes me think that they knew this was coming.. I hope Jordan gets it together, he's a talented kid but this could be addition by subtraction for Mullin & his staff..

Different coach, same St Johns... smh Do you think that judgement might be a tad harsh? Jordan was a Lavin player and his academic shortcomings occurred well before Mullin arrived. I don't see how Chris can get the blame for that one.

Apparently Mullin gave him a chance to get his act together by going to summer school and he demurred. Mullin is going to run that program the right way.

I assume "will be a significant candidate" means he already has the job.
Adrian WojnarowskiVerified account @wojyahoonba Sources: Sacramento Kings GM Pete D'Alessandro - who lost authority to Vlade Divac - will be a significant candidate for St. John's AD job.
