This is the other shoe dropping in the aftermath of the firing of Steve Lavin. AD Chris Monasch wanted to keep Lavin as head coach; university president Conrado "Bobby" Gempesaw wanted to fire Lavin. We know who wins that power struggle (at least in a non-Power 5 conference setting). Once Monasch lost that battle, he was toast.

zagsblog.com/articles/chris-mullin-staff-impress-flock-of-new-york-recruits/Their focus is going to be more on skill development and preparing you for the next level, as opposed to just running offensive sets and defensive schemes that will help the individual college win games “They were good, they were really good,” he said. “[Mullin’s] message was, “Hey, we know what it takes to play in the NBA and we’re going to make your son that type of a basketball player.'”I wouldn't be too happy reading this philosophy if I were a Johnnies fan..

Sounds like Calipari East. The irony is that most knowledgeable college coaches understand the differences between the NBA and college hoops. But Chris can play the "I was there" card and will also sell whatever pipeline he has to NBA personnel people. He knows that few of his recruits will ever play in the NBA -- he just wants one or two star quality guys every year to fill seats at MSG and generate more buzz about the program. But he'd better win.

Was listening to WFNY this week, and they seem to be in love with Mullin. I hope that he turns things around, but it may be rough going at first. Fans will expect Ws in 2016-2017.

Here's a starting lineup for the Redmen in Mullin's first season: G: Still recruiting a PG G: Felix Balamou (Sr., 1.3 ppg) F: Malik Ellison (Fr.) F: Amar Alibegovic (Soph., 1.4 ppg) C: Yankuba Sima (Fr.)

I'm not sure it can be called rebuilding, but more like delete and start again. Our two games must be Ws. I just hope that they can pull some Ws vs good comp in the OCC for BE' sake.

Just saw Lavin on Monday - zags had him as one of the pregame event speakers out on the lawn next to the stadium in Phoenix. The way he was talking about the importance of Oregon and Zags making it to the final four, representing "West of the Mississippi" and "the future of college hoops" it made me wonder if his next gig might be with some team out West.
Don't know if there's a way to upload video directly onto this board, but I got snips of his speech on iPhone video. Interesting.
