...FrazierFanatic with 4 wins! You win another post in the Bradley Hayes thread. Congrats to gutuna for picking Utah... Season individual game winners: FrazierFanatic(4 wins), nathannm(2), njhoya78(2), hoyainspirit(2), puppydog100(2), Ranch Dressing(2), nodak, rockhoya, SFOHoya, prhoya, birdman, NevadaHoya, Ida05816, MassHoya, guru, SSHoya, 71hoya bicentennial and gutuna. Nice spread! Just whiners, no winners: 6 games. Before next season, we should take a look at the rules as set forth by C2C and decide whether we want to change the first rule to determine the winner, i.e. total score. In other words, should a prediction of 139-1 be the winner over a prediction of 71-68 if the final score was 71-69? BTW, C2C, if you want to come back and run this, please do so.

Wait , I get another post in the Bradley thread? Why am I being punished??
I would propose that the winner is the one who picks the correct winner, and who has the lowest total differential - that is, adding the difference between the predicted and actual Hoya score and the predicted and actual opponent score.
E.g. (A) prediction: GU 70 Opponent 60 actual: GU 74 Opponent 58
GU difference of 4 plus opponent difference of 2 = 6
(B) Prediction: GU 70 Opponent 60 actual: GU 70 Opponent 52
Total difference = 8
(A) wins
Just one option.

As well, give points for finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Forget tiebreakers. If there are ties, everyone entitled gets all the points. Bonus point for getting the scores of the teams exactly correct.

That's C2C's first tiebreaker if two or more have the same game total. We could skip "total score" and go straight to that one.

Here's C2C's (I hope he's O.K.) Rules with an explanation (which, by coincidence, happens to involve me in a tiebreaker): RULES1. The WINNNER of each Prediction Thread is the poster: * who correctly predicts the outcome of the game (win or loss), and * whose predicted total score is closest to the actual total score of that game. 2. TIE-BREAKERS are determined by which posters' predictions are: * Closest to actual margin of victory or defeat * Closest to Hoyas' actual score * Closest to Opponents' actual score * Cleverness, as determined by the Prediction Thread moderator (currently Coast2CoastHoya). A good example comes to us from this season's game against American, because we had to go to the second tie-breaker. 1. The Hoyas won 81-55, a total of 136 points. 2. Both DoctorHoya and prhoya predicted a Hoya win and scores that were 3 points off the actual score (82-57 and 83-56, respectively). 3. Because of the tie, we look at Tie-Breaker #1, closest to actual margin of victory, which was 26. DoctorHoya's prediction was for a 27 point win, and prhoya's was for a 25 point win, both exactly 1 point off the actual margin, so we go to Tie-Breaker #2. 4. The Hoyas scored 81. Doc predicted 83, and pr predicted 82. Because pr is closer, he gets the win.

I typically don't participate during the season due to superstition reasons. That being said, I agree with the rule change. Total score should be the final tie breaker (ahead of cleverness)

I vote for no tie breakers. Give 10 pts for 1st, 6 pts for 2nd, 2 pts for third, based on Frazier's absolute value of the difference method. Everyone with the lowest three scores earns points, so if X people have the smallest difference, they all get 10 pts. Same with second and third place. One bonus point for each team's score predicted exactly.

I used to work hard at cleverness and I really enjoyed reading others. Over the last few years, I've gotten lazy and have not bothered at all. It seems most others have also taken the easy route. I would love to see that aspect brought back somehow.

The suggestions make good sense - although upon further reflection C2C's covert intent may have been to foster discord and derision among the members, so as to avenge some deep-seated and long-standing grudge he holds against Dan and the other mods by forcing them to read and oversee even more hair-pulling, blood pressure-raising childishness from we members; therefore being sensible and reasonable may undermine the very foundations of the prediction contest.

I would love to see that aspect brought back somehow. Cleverness is cute, except for the tally. Next season we'll need to add a (GU) and (Opponent) next to the clever name. Google was a friend to figure out some this season...

Ha ha, what's up guys?
Good to see this thread. You've correctly divined my not-so-secret intent, but mildly misrepresented it: my hope has always been that folks will be clever to make the threads more fun and bring us together, make fun of rivals, and find random facts on the interwebs. I'd mention something about hair-pulling, but considering Prediction Thread founder BuffaloHoya's ever-receeding hairline, that would seem a little too barbed.
As for how to score it, I'd say do whatever works and is fun; whoever is in charge gets to do the math. To that end, I'd also vote for the each game's previous WINNER being in charge of the next prediction thread.
Hoping to back in action this season!
Cheers and Hoya Saxa, C2C
