Dan was dragging his feet and I think DFWs bedtime was before tipoff so I'm starting this thread. We get to play more basketball! Against a team that looked pretty bad a few hours ago! For a trip to next weekend!
EDIT: Merge me Dan you sly bastard

Well Smith, Copeland and Peak will be well rested. Hopefully 2 of the 3 can step up this next game.

As I said in the other thread: This will be the first game for the Hoyas against a single-digit seed since 2007 OSU in the Final Four.
Utah is like the opposite of EWU. Their defense is excellent. We will be very, very hard pressed to score.

Utah is very strong on the defensive side of the ball, and their big man Poertl played well today. He isn't a great foul shooter, but he knocked them down today.

Utah is #8 Pomeroy. KenPom.com gives us a 34% chance to win. That's about as low as we've seen all season.

The reality is that Utah should have been the 4 seed to our 5, that Utah should be favored in Vegas, and that we are going to have to put together one of our 5 best performances of the year to have a chance at the Sweet Sixteen. They played Kansas 3 days after we did, but in Kansas City as opposed to at home and had a better showing than we did.

They could not score a bucket. And they looked really susceptible to dribble drives and inside scoring.

I know Utah extensively. Tomorrow, I'll put together a full scouting report on their offense, defense and personnel. Bottom line, we have to play very very well. They are big and physical, and like Big Dog said, they are probably one of the 15 best defensive teams in the country. But - other than Kansas and Arizona and maybe San Diego State - Utah hasn't seen a team with our level of athleticism, physicality and overall talent.

Approximately 7:45 on CBS, after Ohio State-Arizona.

Utah should have far more fans there than we do, but they should also have less than Ohio State and Arizona. So a large part of the building may clear out or stop caring before we begin. Fine by me.

Short scouting report is that they went 2-7 against teams that made the field of 64 (3-7 if you include the win against BYU) but much like us took care of business against everyone they should except for a terrible regular season ending loss against Washington. So 23-1 against teams not playing Thursday or later and 2-7 against teams who are. Lot of HUGE wins against decent teams which Poneroy loves. Overall not a resume to be afraid of. I know that you're a Utah local though so thanks for the upcoming scouting report.

I went over to their message board to lurk. They are very different from East Washington. Not very nice, and they really hate us, at least from the early posts.

Two of those losses were to Arizona, one to Kansas on the road, one to San Diego State on the road, one to Oregon and UCLA each on the road. That record looks worse than it is.
