Duke jacks 3s and presses up over 20 with 6 minutes to go and I'm supposed to worry about whether Jabril should have dunked at the end of the EW game??? Don't you know, Duke just plays with a passion and intensity that can't be turned down. They are hardwired to give 100% each time down and to play every possession as if it's their last. They'd be doing not only themselves a disservice to turn it down a notch, but also their opponents, who are truly blessed to be on the court with them. Or at least that's what I think goes through the head of CBS and ESPN announcers and analysts.

Arguing that things are fine because they're less obnoxious than Duke is like saying that shady recruiting is fine because you're not dropping six figures like Cal. Just because you aren't the worst of the worst doesn't make your actions any better.

For the most part, sportsmanship is completely overrated to me. As long as you aren't trying to seriously or permanently injure the opposing team, anything goes. I have no issue with a team pressing up 30 or dunking an scoring until the clock reaches 0. It's a game, lets not take it too seriously.

Who was involved in a fight? Or are you making stuff up in an effort to bolster your weak argument?

There was a physical altercation in the hotel before the game? How did not a single media outlet pick this up?

How did not a single media outlet pick this up? Hah. This was mentioned in the game thread in the context of "not taking Edited" and was immediately accepted as fact and praised. I mention it in the context of having thin skin and now it's unverifiable hearsay that needs a media source. Listen, I'm not a huge Jabril fan. People call him city tough but really he does a lot of posturing and vastly exaggerates contact when he has the ball. I won't argue this further because I realize that unverifiable statements are only accepted as fact as long as they reflect positively on the program. EDIT: Jesus, verbal altercation since I've now involved myself in a semantic argument.

Good grief. It was just a tongue in cheek post about the one play in the Duke/Robert Morris game that I happened to see.

As if how you act on the field or court actually reflects what kind of person you are. They don't, "classy" players can be abusive husbands and fathers and non "classy" players can be standup guys. Sometimes it's all just a strategy and part of the game and people need to get over it and move on, no matter the team. These are games, not venues to display your superior humanity.

Changing the subject. . .the Johnnies look gassed and the Friars have yet to wake up. At least the Big East acquitted itself well yesterday, because tonight is another story entirely.

I think we mostly agree. A term like "class" is ridiculous. I don't think sportsmanship is ridiculous, but my definition of sportsmanship is basically "would I want to play pickup with you again?" I'll agree to disagree on whether some of Jabril's antics cross that line.

The Johnnies had to make it a track meet and hit 3s to win.

But yea for the most part this conversation is just semantics. And thats what the offseason's for.
