How aggressive will DePaul be with their hire? I know they paid a ton to bring Purnell from Clemson (which I thought was way over paying for a guy who was only mildly successful at Clemson), but do they try to make a splash again? Wasn't one of the big concerns with Purnell that he really didn't have contacts in the Chicago recruiting scene?
As far as other BE coaching carousel participants, seems like Lavin bought himself another year, but do we expect Willard to be gone?

I think we will see a bit of turnover in the next year or two. Lavin may have bought himself literally one more year, but think of who St. John's will be losing personnel wise. Every significant player except Jordan. This year's recruiting class was terrible. Next year they will bringing in Brandon Sampson and not much else. Unless St. John's makes a huge run this year and Lavin can convince people he's rebuilding over the next few, his days are numbered. I can't even speculate on Willard. That disastrous situation could go any way from here.
I think any coach is going to have significant trouble recruiting in Chicago. Unless they can bring in a guy with significant contacts, DePaul really just isn't that appealing of a place to play.

Not so sure Lavin is safe at SJU. If you read the Post and Daily News links, no one has been impressed with his tenure and lack of success especially in March. That senior class has not won a BET game! Lavin has wasted so much talent in that senior class. If they are one and done in the NCAAs, I think he is actually out. He has not been able to recruit at all and he has one year left on his contract, they need to make a decision on him this year for recruiting purposes.
As for Depaul, I would go young and hungry with Chicago or Midwest connections. No big names, or even old names will want that job. Get a guy that will use it as a stepping stone, he will leave the program better than it is now and that is what they need right now.

I don't know how attractive the job is to "name" coaches but it couldn't hurt for the teams from the BE making the dance to make some noise. Purnell seems like a really good man and I wish him well but I hope this leads to a brighter future for the DePaul program.

Ty Corbin needs a job right?
I know everyone obsesses over St. John's but Chicago produces a ton more talent. Grab a guy with connections to the school or city and hope you Hoiberg it.

People talk about this not being a good job, but sometimes you have to take a decent job and make it a good job.
I don't see why a program like DePaul - with a new arena on the way and a ton of talent in Chicago - can't be a good job for the right person.

Ty Corbin is an abysmal basketball coach so I am sure Depaul will hire him.

I agree they need someone with Chicago ties who can recruit and sell the new stadium to recruits. It would be good for the Big East to have a strong presence in Chicago. On the other hand Chicago has some very good talent so it is good we have Hardy to help us recruit in Chicago.

Hoiberg isn't leaving his alma mater for DePaul. Come on.
If I were the DePaul AD, I put long shot feelers out to Lavin, Buzz Williams, Ed Cooley, and Jamie Dixon, and I try to blow Chris Collins's mind with an offer. Otherwise it is looking for the next Dave Leitao.

DePaul is a sleeping giant. With the right coach, they have a ceiling that far exceeds anything that Creighton or Providence or Xavier could bring to the table.

I think you need to think outside the "has Chicago connections" and just hire the best coach you can. Your assistants can be filled with Chicago connects. Here's hoping they get this hire right.

I don't think that poster was saying Hoiberg as coach. He was talking about using a former star to come back with his NBA coaching knowledge and restart like Hoiberg did for Iowa St

Either Hurley would be my pick. And they'd be more inclined to take the job than a comfortable mid-major coach in the midwest.

Dixon is an interesting one. He can't be happy with how things have gone in the ACC for Pitt. I doubt this is the year he leaves but maybe soon.

Dixon would be great. Hey ACC let's trade - we'll give you Buzz, you give us Dixon... fair?
eta - I don't think Dixon would go to DePaul. I'm hoping for Howland or another big name. I'm with the 'sleeping giant' crowd on DePaul.

But DePaul needs a young hungry type like Tom Crean was when he rebuilt Marquette. Somebody who will be all over campus and social media, driving to students to Allstate or whatever.
