Aside from the one season that Bryce Drew spent sitting on the Chicago Bulls' bench, none of these candidates (excepting Wardle) have any prior connections with Chicago.

Oliver Purnell is out at DePaul. That program was finally starting to make progress after being the doormat of the conference for many years...

Updated list of potential DePaul coaches, per scuttlebutt (Chicago ties in italics):
Mark Aguirre (no coaching experience; DePaul graduate) Tyrone Corbin (former Utah Jazz and Sacramento King head coach; DePaul graduate) Tom Crean (Indiana head coach; none) Mike Davis (Texas Southern head coach and former head coach at Indiana; none) Bryce Drew (Valparaiso head coach; sat on the NBA Bulls bench for a season) Jarod Haase (Alabama Birmingham head coach; none) Ben Howland (Fox Sports 1 talking head and former head coach at UCLA and Pittsburgh; none) Bobby Hurley (Buffalo head coach; none) Martin Inglesby (Notre Dame assistant coach; none) Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa head coach; none) Mike Lonergan (George Washington head coach; none) Steve Masiello (Manhattan head coach; none) Marvin Menzies (New Mexico State head coach; none) Archie Miller (Dayton head coach; none) Dan Muller (Illinois State head coach; none) Kenny Payne (Kentucky assistant coach; none) Craig Robinson (ESPN commentator and former head coach at Oregon State and Brown; born in Chicago and is President Obama's brother-in-law) Lorenzo Romar (Washington head coach;none) Brian Wardle (Wisconsin-Green Bay head coach; grew up in a Chicago suburb)
Mike Davis is an intriguing possibility here. He has had previous success in a high pressure program (having followed Bobby Knight at Indiana), and is still young enough to not view the DePaul job as a retirement annuity. I would have to believe that Ben Jacobson and Archie Miller would not consider DePaul, and would instead hold out for a larger, state-school location. In the same regard, I can't see Steve Masiello, Bobby Hurley, Jarod Haase, Marvin Menzies, Lorenzo Romar or Mike Lonergan, with no midwestern ties at all, being considered for this job.

Didn't realize Craig Robinson was out of a coaching job.

Oregon State fired Robinson in late May last year, effectively precluding him from being considered for any coaching vacancies. He signed on with ESPN in October, and did the color commentary for the Robert Morris/St. Francis (New York) NEC championship game in Brooklyn this past week. He won't be in the running, most likely, for the DePaul job, but another school will hire him. . .if not this spring, certainly next spring.

Nothing confirmed yet, but rumors out of Philadelphia indicate that Steve Donahue, former head coach at Cornell and (most recently, through 2014) at Boston College, is the new head coach at Pennsylvania.
EDIT: According to philly.com, Penn has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow at the Palestra to introduce its new basketball coach. . . .

Will be interesting to see what Hewitt does next. He was a rising star in the Siena/early Ga. Tech days. Given that he's local, he'd be an interesting guy to add as an experienced bench coach that probably wouldn't cost much since he's already made his money. Gotta think JT3 and Hewitt have a good relationship since the Hoyas have played preseason games against George Mason while Hewitt was coaching the Patriots.

Holy Cross has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow to introduce Bill Carmody, former head coach at Princeton (before JT3) and Northwestern, as its new head coach. Rumors abound on the Seton Hall board that Kevin Willard was offered, and declined, the position.
