It is a little early for this thread, but I had to place this Indiana/Tom Crean information somewhere.I think
The Indiana basketball forum is going crazy right now with speculation as to Crean's future, especially in light of last night's home loss against Iowa. The initial speculation is whether Indiana would eat almost $11 million in contractual obligation to Crean to get rid of him at season's end, if (as they anticipate) IU loses its season finale, and then flames out in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Some posters believe that it is a 50/50 proposition right now.
The laughable portion of the thread deals with Crean's replacement.
First, they think that Brad Stevens will leave the Celtics. Most believe that Stevens will wait a couple of years, but that IU should make inquiry of him to see if his family is homesick for Indiana.
Next. . .Fred Hoiberg. Sure, he'll leave his alma mater for Indiana! After all, he had a good time with the Pacers!
Next. . .Mike Brey. Sure, he'll leave Notre Dame, where he almost has a contract for life, for Indiana!
Next. . .Jay Wright. Sure, he'll leave his alma mater, and his home town, for Indiana! Do they have good tailors in Bloomington?
Next. . .Billy Donovan. Sure, he'll leave Florida for Indiana! After all, he almost went to the Orlando Magic!
Next. . .you guessed it. . .Shaka Smart! He's ready to leave VCU! Again!
Once you pick through the fanciful desires (and yes, there are a few who think that Bobby Knight is ready to return), the names Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa), Archie Miller (Dayton) and Greg Marshall (Wichita State) come up, and make some sense. I would not be surprised to see these same three names come up for a potential opening at DePaul, if they wake up in Chicagoland.
The "Fire Crean" contingent on the IU board had been quiet since the end of November. Looks like they're warming up.
This will be interesting to follow.

I almost forgot. . .they also believe that they can convince Thad Motta to leave Ohio State for Indiana because. . .well, they are Indiana.

Even they know not to go there.
The IU Athletic Director today gave Crean a vote of confidence. Guess that means that the rumors will really get going after the Hoosiers bow out of the Big Ten tournament next week.

Crean getting fired from Indiana is probably good for us, in that it removes a coach with DC recruiting ties from the head of a "name" program. Not sure how often we went head to head with Indiana / Crean, but a number of his players/recruits were from the DC area, so having him out of coaching can't hurt.

Not putting it on the list yet, but numerous sources are reporting that Pennsylvania will be firing head coach Jerome Allen after the Quaker season concludes Monday evening. Allen is in his sixth season, and is apparently the first head coach at Penn to never win an Ivy League title since 1956.

The Big East figures to be quiet on the carousel this off-season.
Villanova: Wright is there as long as he wants to be. Georgetown: Same for JTIII. Butler: Holtmann did an incredible job this year. Providence: Cooley is the best coach at PC since Pitino. St. John's: Late run ended any whispers about cutting ties with Lavin, but recruiting is a big problem next year. Xavier: No real issues with Mack. DePaul: 12-19 isn't great, but allows DePaul to let Purnell finish out a 7-year, $14 million deal that was a head-scratcher then... and still is. Seton Hall: Willard needs a much better year in 2015-16 or he'll be on the list in 15-16. Marquette: Wojo's second year figures to be better. Creighton: McDermott's team probably overachieved given the losses from last year.
Coaches who may be feeling some heat later this month:
Andy Enfield (USC, 11-19) Bruce Weber (K-State, 15-16) Rick Barnes (Texas, 19-12)
And some first year coaches with a lot of work to do next year: Buzz Williams (VPI, 10-21) Jim Christian (BC, 11-18) Bruce Pearl (Auburn, 9-22)

With their recent tradition and storied building I've always liked what they bring. And their rise this season has been huge for the NBE, IMO.

At what point does Sydney Johnson's (and I guess Martin Bahar's) seat get toasty at Fairfield?

At what point does Sydney Johnson's (and I guess Martin Bahar's) seat get toasty at Fairfield? I wasn't aware as to how badly it has gone for Johnson at Fairfield until I took a closer look. Two good seasons, largely with Ed Cooley's recruits, have been followed by two seven win seasons. I'd have to think that Johnson's seat is pretty warm as of today.

I don't know that I've ever had any concrete reasons to substantiate it, but I've always had a feeling that there was something off - or at least untimely - about Johnson's having bailed from Princeton. Let's hope he figures it out.
