Ironic, in that I was reading just a few days ago about the fact that he had not been elected to the Hall of Fame, although many Latin ballplayers considered him the "Jackie Robinson" of Hispanic players. I'm not sure that he was ever appreciated outside of Chicagoland as much as he should have been.
First Ernie Banks, now Minnie Minoso. We've lost the faces of both Chicago franchises in short order. Requiescat in pace, Mr. Minoso.

A great, great ambassador for the game. The Hall of Fame needs him.

His numbers may not be spectacular, but his influence went way beyond that. I'll always have a soft spot for the stars of the White Sox when I first became a fan. Minnie, Nellie Fox, Little Luis, Early Wynn. Minnie was the closest thing the Sox had to Ernie Banks. So sad to lose them both.
