That group of announcers really is excellent. Glad to see Don Orsillo added too. I assume he'll be the go to guy for the Providence games.

Unless Orsillo has already relocated to the West Coast for his Padres gig.
Seeing this thread reminds me of a conversation I had with coworkers a few weeks ago, as they were complaining that they could not find baseball playoff games because they had no idea where FS1 was on their cable package. After noting that it is still unavailable in most hotel rooms, I said that I was already well aware of the channel because it is where I watch Big East basketball, only to be met with blank stares and a (serious) question "Isn't the Big East gone?"
So, not great, Bob.

Deadspin had an article today on the struggles of FS1. The article is generally discussing the network's original content, but it's interesting that their ratings comparison near the bottom of the article includes the Georgetown-Butler game from this week which had 123,000 viewers. Like others have said in other threads, it's good that Fox is putting some of the bigger games this season on Fox instead of FS1 to increase the profile of the league. deadspin.com/this-photo-of-john-wall-will-probably-get-more-viewers-1757330648The ratings information they included comes from this source, which has information posted on a daily basis: sportstvratings.com/

I only saw the broadcasts of the Hoyas-DePaul game and the final because I was in the building for the rest, but the production and presentation has been top notch this year.

Gus Johnson must have gone into near earth orbit on some of Whitehead's moves. Great crowd, first finals sellout since 2013 Syr-Louisville, and just as loud.

Never understood why people doubted FOX and FS1. It takes time. Besides....as some of us have pointed out before...we Big East leftovers should have been happy that someone wanted us. Things could have gone much worse for the conference.

Gus Johnson must have gone into near earth orbit on some of Whitehead's moves. Gus was definitely selling. A little too heavy on the "Big Smoove" moaning every time Jenkins made a hoop, but otherwise well done. Jimmy Jackson was actually surprisingly good. Donny Marshall, despite his poor education, is excellent in the 'studio' role - a skill he honed doing Celtics broadcast pre- and post-games. You can tell he loves the Big East tournament as only a former Big East player can.

Thought the production values were great, and just about all of their on-air talent (Raftery, Gus, Jim Jackson, Lavin, Donny Marshall, etc.) are likable and easy to listen to. Plus, they just haven't fallen into ESPN's constant corporate synergy yet.

FS1 can't go away completely because it has too many sports rights locked up for the next decade or so. But they have killed off any chance of it becoming a viable sports or news network for a long, long time to come. The guy who was supposed to save the network has eliminated absolutely everything except for grotesque debate shows. He's even banned writing! Other than whatever live sports they have, there will be nothing out of FS1 or Fox Sports except for blowhard hot takes. Like most everything else these past couple of years, this is such a disappointment. www.sportingnews.com/other-sports/news/fox-sports-layoffs-details-skip-bayless-video-overhaul-jamie-horowitz/1vyib86j39m0515sioszzb2vew

It stinks, but it is reality. ESPN also laid off a whole bunch of writers/reporters who did more straight journalism (rather than entertainment focused junk) too. The same thing is happening to some extent on the cable news networks. We all wish that FS1 was more focused on serious journalism - but doing so might kill them financially. There is no really good answer to this problem, and going with "hot takes" over journalism is probably the smart call from a business perspective. So I don't think that Horowitz's shift in direction disadvantages FS1 in the market, because the industry leader/main competitor is doing the same basic thing.
