I agree that overall Fox Sports has been good for the New Big East. ESPN was going to pay far less for our product and has essentially destroyed UCONN and Cincy with lack of coverage of the AAC. My one big complaint was that at the time of the BE tournament ATT and Fox Sports decided to have a dispute and the Big East games were not available on my home TV. I am sure the FS1 numbers for the Big East tournament were significantly worse because of the loss of ATT houses on the tv viewership surveys!

I think Fox was the only major network who even talked to the new BE, so we got mid-major treatment. That's life. You mean without Fox, we would have become a mid-major. We should thank our lucky stars that Fox came through for us.

Give Fox sports a chance. They will get another league to balance out the time slots. My guess is some big 10 games

kg, you are probably right. They juggle the girl's volleyball start times to supplement basketball. BTN does broadcast on three channels on Saturdays, but not the rest of the week.

So fewer games on weekend prime viewing time would be better? not sure I am getting this argument - maybe it is just because I like the availability of a league marathon from time to time.

Even in the old Big East, keep in mind not even all of our games were on national TV. Some were on ESPN3 and the local networks like MASN/SNY. The fact that Fox Sports puts every single game on television is really a huge deal and not even close to mid-major treatment.
Building FS1 is going to be a process. Fox Sports clearly has the goal of getting more content and raising its own profile. If they succeed, the Big East succeeds.

How many years had the ACC had Sunday night games at 6 or 7 - that makes them mid-major? The Big10 and Big12 have games on multiple networks at 2 and 4 on weekends - mid-majors? Let's at least try a legitimate argument.

FS1 was the best option for the BE and the BE was the best option for FS1. Fox has a long history of finding ways to compete and dominate (at times) as the upstart in a new media space. They realize that it's about content and innovation and building viewership. If we had to hitch our wagon to a network, that's the profile of the type of network to which we want it hitched. They're not everyone's cup of tea but they know how to build a brand and an identity in the presence of established competitors.

I actually really like the coverage on FS1 so far. Granted, the biggest reason is self-serving in that I now get pretty much every game on tv. Back when we were on espn I used to only get about half the games here in the Deep South. Then I would spend a lot of nights streaming the radio feed on my computer listening to Chvotkin. Now I get to see almost all the games and that's a huge plus.
As far as long term, I think fox sports is doing all the right things. I'm also a NASCAR fan, and fox has really ramped up its coverage of that this season. That'll bring more eyes, as will the baseball coverage. The big east is in a bit of a bind because its schools don't have what those of us in the sec tend to call a big sidewalk alumni presence. But the schools have passionate alumni bases and, if the product is good, casual fans will follow. It'll be a huge positive step this year if we can have multiple top 15 teams matching up. That really draws attention.
Plus, I know it has been said by others but I thought the Big East Tournament coverage was terrific. And I do think FS1 values the big east. We are their primary product in a very significant college basketball moment. I like that better than being 6th in line at espn.

Don't know if this is news or not, but fox sports go is now available to Verizon fios subscribers. Previously we were shut out of the service. Will come in handy next season!

Big couple weeks for FS1 coming up: Women's World Cup and US Open at Chambers Bay. They are making small steps - but these are real steps toward respectability.
Love that ESPN dropped the Hope Solo stuff all over its various outlets on the eve of the World Cup. You better believe they don't do that if they control the US broadcast rights. They are pretty blatantly biased with their sports "coverage"

FS1's response, at least according to the piece I read by Richard Deitsch, is pretty pathetic. "Save it for Judge Judy" - really? Also, ESPN, with Jeremy Schaap, has been all over the FIFA corruption stuff and should be commended for it. Maybe if they were still a FIFA rights holder they bury all of this good reporting (cf. "League of Denial"), but ESPN does employ some really good journalists like Schaap, Ley, and Fainaru-Wada. I haven't seen any evidence of someone that serious at FS1.

True on quality of reporters (in some rare cases) at ESPN. FS1 can't even match ESPN's small number of actual journalists yet. But they are making headway in general - this Katie Nolan they have is a rising star for sure (and a nice contrast to the dimwitted sports babes ESPN shuffles through Bristol each year).

I agree that Katie Nolan is very good, now they need to find a better use for her. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up landing Bill Simmons and figure out a way to pair them up.
