Watching them demolish Providence makes me wonder if they are a #1 seed. Also makes me wonder how we beat them by 20. I didn't record the game but if I recall we threw a ferocious D at them and shot light out. Amazing what a difference all those upperclassmen make for Nova. I think if we had a senior Otto Porter on this year's Hoya team we would be enjoying similar success.

During the seventeen point first half run that extended the GU lead from 13-11 to 30-11, Villanova went 0-6 from the field with four turnovers; the Hoyas were 7-10 from the field, including a dunk and three layups, while committing just two turnovers. Maybe the secret is getting the ball inside, either through driving to the hoop or good entry passes.
Let's put Kentucky aside for the moment. I think 'Nova is better than any other team, including UVa, Duke and Wisconsin. Gonzaga is suspect because they really don't get tested for eight weeks until the NCAA tournament. It's only two seniors for Villanova (Pinkston and Hilliard), but that is a group that, except for that stretch in the game at Verizon Center, hasn't lost its composure all season. What they did to a good Providence team last night was startling. . .not necessarily because of the result, but because of the extraordinary ease with which they won. Ed Cooley's comment at the start of the post-game press conference is a classic: "Glad that 's over."

They're definitely one of the five favorites for a #1 seed with Kentucky, UVA, Duke and Gonzaga. I'd say Kansas, Arizona and Wisconsin are also in the running for a #1 seed. Obviously, the last few games and conference tournaments will have a lot of say.

Obviously, the last few games and conference tournaments will have a lot of say. As it stands, I don't see how Arizona is really in the same league as UK, UVA, Duke, or Nova. What could really hurt a chance at being a top seed is a bad loss. UVA, Duke and Villanova combined don't have a single loss as bad as Arizona's BEST loss. Losing to ASU, Oregon St., and UNLV are all worse losses than Duke's loss to Miami (even if it was at home by a lot, more than made up for by winning at Wisconsin and UVA) and Villanova's loss to Seton Hall. Gonzaga is a tough figure, though. I think they need to win out to even have a shot at a 1 seed.

Thanks to us over shadowing every other team in the country during March in the choke department, Villanova's stellar record there is sometimes ignored. So while they may be one of the best teams in the country, I'm not going to put them past the first weekend in my bracket. That's the nicest thing I can muster to say about Villanova.

It hasn't been ignored on the Villanova forum. They have a thread there that points out that Jay Wright's NCAA record is no better than JT3's, and that he and 'Nova have gotten a free pass from the media by comparison.

Anything you can choke we can choke better, we can choke anything better than you. Now I have to watch House Party. And, somehow, I still know every word to that rap battle. Strange what a mind will retain.

Nova has a weird streak of NCAA bad luck too. They've been to the NCAAs 9 times under Jay Wright, and in 5 of those appearances they've lost to the eventual National Champion, including all but one time they've made it past the first round. Still, Villanova's five NCAAs since their Final Four appearance in 2009 match our five after 2007: two losses in the Round of 64, two in the Round of 32, and one missed NCAA. We do it with style though. And I think we came along at just the right time when America had Mike Brey fatigue.

I know I'm late but what happened to Nova against us is Hilliard shot unexpectedly bad. Only Archie showed up in DC and they still made it interesting in the 2nd half. I don't know if it was something we did or just one of those days. But Hilliard has been lights out ever since and I remember him having a assassins look when we went to Philly. Also Ennis and Booth have really stepped up to make Nova a potent offensive machine. The key for us against Nova is to pound the paint with Josh and contain Hart, Ennis and Jenkins.
