Southern Mississippi's basketball program was investigated by the NCAA for violations occurring under former head coach Donnie Tyndall (now at Tennessee), and has today self-imposed a post-season tournament ban for the 2014-2015 season. Players, when advised of the decision, reportedly refused to practice today. Of course, whatever Tyndall may have done in connection with the conduct giving rise to the sanction doesn't follow him to his new job. collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/20/southern-miss-self-imposes-postseason-ban-for-this-season/

Always convenient to impose a post-season ban when your team is at the bottom of the league. Will be interesting to see whether it will be enough for the NCAA.

Rumors swirling around Syracuse are that they are going to do the same thing this year to save their predicted title contending team next year. Who knows if it is true but seems like a pretty ridiculous punishment that doesn't even give the players a chance to transfer and avoid the fate being enforced on the school. Middle of the season post season bans shouldn't be allowed.

I realize they have a nice class but that's not a "contend for the title with an NIT team missing its best player" type of class. I mean, I don't know if it is better than our current freshman class. Depends on how you feel about Malachi Richardson, I suppose.

According to their insiders they worked out a deal with the NCAA. Honestly who knows if any of that is true just interesting speculation.
