I'd like to see the staff get in on this kid also..
BRANDON SLATER SHOWS MAJOR VALUE In a battle with the Collin Sexton show and the Pebblebrook High bunch, Brandon Slater and his Paul VI squad held their ground throughout and came home with the win. While it was Sexton, a five-star lead guard that had the fans on their feet during the first half of his contest, it was Slater and his group that came out on top.
A 6-foot-5, slender and slippery wing out of the DMV, Slater has always exuded ideal upside due to his length, versatility, shot making skills, and defensive upside. All of that was on display on Saturday evening as he finished with a complete stat line of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
Despite the fact that he only made one of his five perimeter attempts, Slater is the ideal 3-and-D prospect. He can guard various spots on one end but can be a consistent threat from off the catch on the opposing side of the court. It is his because of his versatility and potential that have made schools come calling and with some added persistency. “I probably hear the most from Maryland, Villanova, Miami, Virginia, and South Carolina,” the top-50 wing stated.
Interestingly enough, Miami and Maryland dispatched their head coach and an assistant on Saturday, while Virginia rolled two deep with an assistant from South Carolina on hand. However, Slater did go on to say that distance would not be much of a factor and that things are still in the gathering and feeling out stage with his recruitment.

MD is in great shape with all of the '18 kids and it infuriates me. What are we doing?! I haven't gotten any indication that we lead for any of the local studs.

To be fair, MD probably just thinks they are in great shape with everybody. Their delusion/propaganda is pretty strong. Time and time again they think they lead for some stud and don't land them. Not saying they are bad off, but I wouldn't assume they are actually in the lead for a lot of these people (other than Hubb).

I just report what I hear from friends I have that coach. They have a great shot with Hubb, Slater, Boyd, Jalen Smith. Probably won't get all but will get 2 or 3. Nova, UVA, and Miami also doing work. When I ask who Georgetown is sitting pretty with, I get crickets. It frustrates me man.

Hubb is what it is. Until we get a Gonzaga guard, I just assume it won't happen. And I think the staff is done with that too which I understand. Jalen Smith is even more unlikely. We are not on good terms with St. Joe's through no fault of Gtown. I have no idea why they never seemed to focus on Slater. Boyd would hurt. That, I do think, is an example of people making assumptions though. Getting Walker helps obviously. And at some point it's a numbers game. MD can only show so many guards love or give so many spots to guards. They already have Cowan and Huerter with Morsell coming in and say they do get Slater and Hubb. There's only so many spots.

Even though he's not a local recruit, hopefully Waters can change the perception of Georgetown among the locals.

We should be able to start changing those perceptions this year. We are already scoring at a better clip than MD by over 4 points a game. We are playing fast and giving guards freedom. Just a matter of people recognizing it.

I know we need to make a local impression but to me '18 is about Keldon and David. A class of Keldon, David and Kiyon(?) would be fine with me. I am praying that the silver lining behind Ike transferring is Kaleb earning plenty of PT..........

We don't recruit at nearly the level we need to.

Right now I got UVA, Maryland, South Carolina, Miami, Villanova,” he said. “Kansas is a new school. I also have West Virginia, UCF and a couple other schools.”
Kansas reached out to Paul VI Coach Glenn Farello regarding Slater last week, but Farello said that Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Miami and Villanova have been the most consistent.

Makes no sense Georgetown hasn't been on him. He's been a known commodity.

He has visits set to Maryland (Oct. 1), Florida (Oct 15) and Indiana (Oct. 22). He also plans to see Louisville at some point.
"The first time I met with coach [Pitino] was right here the first Wednesday of the school year," Brown said. "He said that he liked the way I developed footwork-wise. He sees me contributing big-time into their offense. He likes the way I can push the ball up the court not only be back-to-the-basket, but operate outside of what the usual big man does. And he realizes that the game is changing and he has big men that have the same body style as me, long and lanky. He focuses mainly on development and developing players, and getting them ready for the next level."
Asked what it meant that Pitino took a private jet to see him, Brown said: "It's just amazing. I really didn't expect to blossom so quickly, but I was just tired of being the average big man. I was just in the gym. I didn't want to be the average big man coming out of New York, I wanted to be special so I continue to be in the gym and I feel like I deserve it."
Kansas assistant Norm Roberts was at Molloy last week and extended an offer.
"Kansas, they were like one of the first big-time schools to be in contact with me," Brown said. "Them and Maryland. They finally offered me last week. Coach Norm Roberts said I had the best summer possible. He felt like I made up for everything I missed out on last summer following the injury [fractured tibia]. He likes my toughness. He likes that I'm stronger than I actually look, I play hard and I match my opponent's intensity."
Maryland has also been involved and head coach Mark Turgeon was in the gym this week.
"They've been here twice actually," Brown said. "They came first day of school and then Coach Turgeon came Tuesday. He just was talking to me about how I'm doing outside of school. With them, it's not only basketball. They say I'm their No. 1 priority, they want to get me back on campus to show me some love."
St. John's is also involved and Brown has worked out their several times.
"St. John's, I actually like St. John's," he said. "I was in there two weeks before school started. I was in there to workout, they let me use the gym. They said I could go anytime to put up shots, me and my father, so that's just a blessing, I could use the gym any time I want."
Georgetown is among the other schools involved, and Moses' father told me last week he likes their history of producing big men.
"I love Georgetown, it's a big-man school," Malcolm Brown said. "They basically said they were trying to build a team around him. They didn't realize he has the post skills that he has."
Too bad the kid didn't speak about Gtown himself, all well & good that Pops is a fan but he's not the one that matters.. Brown says that he's been leaving it to his father and uncle to handle most of his recruitment so he hasn't had a ton of personal interaction with college coaches. However, he's paid attention to who has stopped by to see him and mentioned Louisville, Duke, Connecticut, Miami, St. John's, Florida, USC, Kansas, Arizona and Georgetown as schools that have been in. Of that group, only Duke hasn't offered. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/five-star-junior-center-moses-brown-talks-recruiting

Very good that pops admires/"loves" us...if academics also matter, we should have a real shot here...bring the family down to meet some of our successful bigs and Big John...Tremont can get him the ball...continue the tradition.

Good god I hate Moses Brown's game right now. Not that he can't develop; he's pretty impressively coordinated for a big man, nice hands, can handle the rock a little. But he is just SOFT right now. Beat up on bad comp in one game last weekend, and then looked TERRIBLE against Gonzaga, who had a 6'5 JR and 6'6 FR wing guarding him. Kept fading from the basket, wasn't grabbing boards, didn't impose his will on anyone.

Big men continue to drift further from the paint and aren't comfortable unless facing the rim.

Brown, who stands just over 7-feet tall, was sensational in Briarwood (N.Y.) Archbishop Molloy’s win over St. Stephen St. Agnes, scoring 20 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and blocking seven shots. “I’ve been training a lot on my mobility and it’s just staying healthy and just feeling better on the court,” Brown said. “It’s helping me jump around a lot.” Brown already ranks as the No. 32 overall prospect and No. 3 center in the 2018 class, but he’s looked primed for a rise in the rankings. Brown said he’s trying to show a more advanced game this season. “Really my versatility, shooting 15-footers and not just being a post up big man,” he said when asked what he was trying to prove this season. www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1736560-moses-brown-shows-improvement
