The team has underachieved thus far. However, it is beneath adults to call a player who is clearly out there trying his best a waste of a scholarship. He has never dishonored the school and from all accounts will graduate on time with a GU degree.
That will never be a waste of a scholarship.

As far as being picked second in the league, that is great and all, but do you think this crew would have been picked top 5 in the old BE? That pick is more a reflection of the pre-season perception of BE's weakness than Gtown's own strength. The second in the league pick is tied to DSR as player of the year pick. If that was close to reality, we would likely have a few more wins under our belt. hm

Hop has been forced to play out of position essentially his soph & junior year. I don't know why this is repeated so often on here, when this year Hopkins has started every game as the PF (his supposed natural position), and he has shown no better abilities. I do not agree with people who say the scholarship is a waste - Hopkins has represented the university in a commendable way. The problem with Hopkins is that he has played too much and that's largely because of an absence of anyone else who has been better. Anyway, I think far too much is made of Hopkins playing center instead of forward. Big deal. If he was better, he'd still perform better out of position. It's not like we are asking a 6'3 guard to be a center.

As a parent of two kids who played sports in college and had as many down moments as up moments, it is hard not to feel for Hopkins. For whatever reason he cannot score--maybe it is mostly physical (weak hands)but his FT troubles are now mostly mental. When my kids made mistakes it was at smaller colleges in half-filled gyms with teams that no one outside of their parents, the local school and the opponents cared about. When Hopkins fails it is on national television and then subject to the instant analysis of all of us with nothing better to do than demonstrate our fanaticism with each game. I root hard for him every game. I root hard for them all and hope that they can rise to the level of our expectations, however unreasonable those expectations may be.

Those free throws were definitely mental. I have seen him sink plenty of free throws in the past...despite an odd pushing motion, they frequently go in. He looked quite defeated standing at the line...one of those days when he just knew he had no chance. Tough for us as fans to stomach...but no hate for Hopkins. A kid, doing his best, who is losing his offensive confidence more and more each game.

Yeah, if you'd expect him to make 50% of his free throws, there's only an approximately 1.5% chance he'd miss all six, if they were independent of each other. I think we all know that his 5th & 6th free throws can't be considered independent events (especially that 6th one, which no one, including Hopkins, thought was going in).

Some people like to ignore the facts.

Update: JT3's seat is reportedly measured at 98.6 degrees F down from 98.7 F yesterday.

notice brothers we are currently # 33 and 32 in the polls.....damned respectable I say !......and while I am at it, give Hopkins a break......think how badly he already feels without having to endure further derision.....switch places with him brother Hoyas I agree with everything you said except the Hopkins comment. C'mon, he's a senior. I've endured watching him get stuffed, turn the ball over, miss free throws for 4 years. I'm sure he feels bad but that hole in my wall where i put my fist when he missed the last of his 6 Ft's last weekend will repair itself before I cut him any slack. 6'10, star at DeMatha, expected to be a huge part of this team. What a disappointment and wasted scholarship. MOD NOTE: As others have already noted, the last sentence in this post is completely out of line. If we see something like it from you again, expect a posting ban.

To go back to the topic, the conclusion is simple:
No, JT3's seat will never get warm even if we miss the NCAA tourney this year.
Matter of fact, even if we miss the NCAA tourney next 10 years, nothing will happen because the perception of many on this board and the university is that Hoyas would not have been at this position at the first place if it not for Pops.
So unless JT3 runs over Pops' dog and Pop calls out for his son's head, which probably won't even happen at the expense of his dog, the answer is no.
So don't hold us at the standard of Louisville, Kentucky, Uconn, Kansas, Duke, UNC. Even if we had a history of producing NBA hall of famers and have been to Final Four a few times that could sway our perception to make us think like, "I think Hoyas can do better than getting bounced out on the first weekend of the tourney continuously for close to a decade," it will get shot down by many here and by the university, who believe that basketball is merely a small addition to a prestigious university with great academic program.
If you get angry by this reality, you can simply stop following this program like some of the posters have done here, or learn to accept this, which I guess may reduce your Hoya Grey Pride.

Hi Cosmopolitan Hoya
What a great post!! I couldn't agree with you more. We all need to keep our expectations reasonable. We don't have a roster full of top 25 players, so our chances of winning the NCAAs are nil. However, I enjoy watching the team and am not going to call out the players and coaches when they lose.

Jerry yep exactly. i mean how dare we get upset at the fact that we lost to ohio, vcu, and FGFU? we made it to the tournament wohoo! that's like making Final Four for duke, uconn, kentucky, unc, lousville!
