Free throws and no turnovers. And some time for Reggie and Bradley.

Probably noon - I posted that while at a business conference based on the FoxSports 1 video promo linked in the articles thread.

Free throws and no turnovers. And some time for Reggie and Bradley. Yes and toss in a return to the rotation of Bowen and Tre. Here's hoping the coach can resist the urge to return to the shorter bench. Without Hayes developing into at least a role player it is looking like another big may be a priority for next year.

I looked on my program guide this morning and FS1 has a College Basketball Preview show on at 11:30 and Georgetown-Radford is scheduled to start at noon FWIW.

I want to say we played Radford back in 2008 in McDonough. I think we won by like 50. That's about all I've got for this game.

Hope to come out with the same energy we saw against Towson. Engage Josh Smith early in the offense and it should be a successful day. Definitely want to see Tre and Bowen play 15 minutes at minimum. We need DSR to have help available with bringing the ball up court and Bowen just adds some juice to both sides that I enjoy watching.

Last game against Radford was a 110-55 win at McDonough in December of 2007. I seem to remember Vernon Macklin air balling / bricking multiple free throws in that game to the point where he got an actual ovation when he made one, as everyone felt bad for him after his first 3-4 free throws. Looks like it was the most points a JT3 team has scored in a regulation game, eclipsed only by the 111-102 overtime win over Mizzou in the beginning of the 2010-11 season. It was the first time a JT3 team cracked 100 points, and one of only four times a JT3 team has cracked 100 points (the other two being the 103-90 win over Nova in the Snowpocalypse game in 2010 and a 100-38 win over Savannah St. in 2008-09)

I'd like to see a healthy Brilly. Think it'd be good for him to play well and get his confidence back up. I don't want to see him pass up an open 3 again like he did against Kansas. Love the unselfish play Jabril, but you're good enough to take that shot! I'd like to see Smith put together back to back strong games and continued strong play from the freshman.

Here's to crackin' 100 tomorrow. LJ goes for 30+? Somehow I doubt it. This Radford team just beat Buzz (Kill) and Virginia Tech 68-66 shooting a hot 52% from the field. The Highlanders lack size - especially with a 6'7" center. So we are going to need to guard the perimeter tomorrow. And I imagine we are going to be throwing it into to Josh plenty to start the game and establish a presence down low. Trivia note - Radford Coach Mike Jones' (he as a bench coach/recruiter at VCU for Shaka and at Georgia under Dennis Felton) father Jimmy Jones played for the Washington Bullets from 1974-77.

And for seven seasons he played here in New Orleans for the Buccaneers of the ABA. Always irked me when Larry Brown would inevitably pass to Doug Moe when Jones would be open on the baseline for his sweet jumper.

The ABA's Bucs moved to Memphis after three seasons, and became the Memphis Pros; they were later purchased by Charles O. Finley and became the Memphis Tams (with Charlie's green and gold color uniforms). They later became the Memphis Sounds, before relocating to Baltimore, being renamed the Claws, and folding without playing a game in Charm City. Jones followed to Bucs to Memphis and spent three seasons with the Utah Stars before joining the Bullets after the ABA-NBA merger. Jones played just one season with Moe and Brown (they were traded to the Oakland Oaks after that one season), and established himself as a prolific scorer, even if Larry would only pass the ball to his friend Doug.
I was one of the few who saw the New Jersey Americans play in the Teaneck Armory in the first season of the ABA. I think that the present edition of the Sixers would have struggled to finish .500 in the original configuration of the ABA.

These are the toughest games for a team. A win is expected--by a comfortable margin. Anything less is considered a negative. So the positives to be gained are to continue to work combinations that might be helpful later in the season. With the addition of the freshmen there are a number of combinations that might work depending upon game situations. Some things I would like to see include Reggie getting decent minutes with the top of the rotation and Tre, White and Peak taking more turns handling the ball against what is going to be an aggressive defense.
I am not that big on statistics but there are 2 that caught my eye. Overall FT shooting is not great at 67%. However, DSR and White are shooting FTs at a 90% clip. Beyond these two it gets ugly quickly. Smith and Hopkins account for 35% of all turnovers (41/117), perhaps evidence of our inside emphasis but also a reflection of opponents ability to collapse on these players in games where there is the absence of an outside threat.

Ben Howland being VERY complimentary about Joshua Smith during the Fox Sports 1 pre-game show, talking about his recruiting of Smith and how much he has improved. Howland didn't talk about how much Howland's coaching impeded his improvement at UCLA.

And there is the first blocked shot on Hopkins.
