He really has a great instinct for the ball off the rim which aids in his ability to rebound. Gotta play the kid, showing why he is the top Hoya recruit. With confidence, he could be our best player by seasons end. (that's right, I said it) I too have noticed how many times he gets a hand on an offensive rebound. Right now he is not strong enough or experienced enough to snag that rebound, but it will come. I am always amazed that Hoya players not named Hopkins are not at the offensive rim getting a hand at least on the ball. When this kid gets stronger he will be a terror for opposing teams. White who I thought would be a starter instead of Peak does not have his lift and is not as quick to the basket as Copeland. Next year these two will be interchangeable between the 3 and 4 positions depending on the team they are playing. To get the open 3pt shot Copeland got in this game you need a guard who can drive the ball to the basket and has the speed to get past his man in order to draw the help defender to him. Trawick's driving earlier in the game created that scenario. DSR can get to the basket, but its not with the same speed so his defender can defend him much longer, not cresting the pressure on the help defender as much. I doubt if DSR had that same drive, that Copeland would have been that open.

If White is wide open I think he is a better perimeter shooter but if people focus their attention on him and man him with tight D it's harder for him to get his shot off and his outside shot is not as good. With Copeland with his hops and height he can basically shoot over anyone (kind of like Otto's outside shooting ability at Georgetown except with 3pt range) from outside and it can't really be stopped.

An underrated part of Isaac's game is his cutting ability away from the ball in our man-to-man offensive sets. Along with DSR, Copeland is one of the best on the team at losing his defender with a jab step away from the basket, followed by a hard, quick cut to the basket. This skill will be rewarded with more playing time and building up confidence in his teammates so they send him the pass as he makes the cut.
By the end of the year, I expect to see more than one dunk by Copeland on back-cuts.

It doesn't matter if White can't get his shot off better because, regardless of elite speed, he still able to dribble the ball better to get around his man. And if he draws another defender in the process there is no one on the team as good as him in making the best pass in that scenario.

Saw him play a lot in high school and the one thing that truly stands out is how much he's improved his jumper. It was really flat and he had a slight hitch in his form but it's so much cleaner now and he gets a lot more arc on it as well.
Keep working young man.

Ike is finding his groove. Solid player with a lot of different moves.

His top of the key step back J was pretty. That's a league move. When this kid learns to put it together consistently, he's going to be very very good.

Ike is playing with great confidence right now, and that opens up so much more operating room for the others. Couple that with White hitting his shots, and Peak trying the alley-oop passes. . .these guys are fun to watch, and really, really good.
Posters on the 'Nova board are already speculating/looking forward to Ike leaving GU early for the NBA. I just think they're terrified that they may have to face him, repeatedly, for the foreseeable future.

Looking like the light bulb has gone on for Isaac. He has the highest ceiling of anyone on this team.

Way to step up Isaac! Nice to see one of the young guys getting more comfortable and showing up big for his team. My favorite play of the night was Isaac drawing a double team and the quick dump-down to PW for the flush. He hasn't been doubled on the college level and recognized it immediately and made the exact right play. Not to be discounted, his defensive rotations tonight were MILES better than they were earlier in the year. Keep it up Cope!

The delicious part is that he WILL start drawing double teams if he keeps playing well, and this is an indication of how badly he can make a team pay for that, too!

It's hard to believe that he actually started out slower than the other rookies(not included Lil Zo)..

Love Paul's confidence. It has grown by leaps and bounds in a couple of months. He and White are going to be leaders on this team next year.

I keep finding myself comparing Ike to Jeff and figuring out who looked better their freshman year. Then I realized that maybe Ike is actually more like Summers, with more of a perimeter/slashing game, than Jeff who could post up better and maybe pass better. Ike's actually more of the Summers we all wished Summers would be with the ability to rebound. Anyone else care to weigh in?
