Haven't seen anything on the board about the preseason rankings but find it interesting that when you look at the BE against the mid majors we are right there with them. With the lack of publicity this new conference gets I think that can only get worse.
Missouri Valley - Wichita State (11) Big East - Villanova (12) West Coast - Gonzaga (13) Atlantic-10 - VCU (15) Moutain West - San Diego State (16) American Athletic - UCONN (17) American Athletic - SMU (22) Ivy - Harvard (25)
Funny to think the schools we left behind have two ranked teams and we have one.
ACC - 5 B10 - 5 B12 - 4 PAC12 - 2 SEC - 2

It is way too early to worry about the rankings. Way, way too early.

Any time a headline has a question mark in it, the answer is "no."

ACC - 5 B10 - 5 B12 - 4 PAC12 - 2 SEC - 2 I think the premise is silly to begin with. You could argue "fewer ranked teams than previous years" and make a case. But the rest is ridiculous. The most ridiculous is the "I think that can only get worse" part. So it's going to get worse than mid-major which was your initial premise? Worse how? By all of the winning the conference has done so far? Granted, it's against mostly bad teams but everyone plays bad teams this time of year and the BE has a better record than any other conference. As far as I can tell, if anyone else out there agrees with your initial "point," there's nothing but upside as far as the conference is concerned. Winning fixes everything.

Until we're no longer solidly in the Top 6 in this metric at the end of each season, there is no reason to panic. warrennolan.com/basketball/2015/conferencerpiFor reference, last year: warrennolan.com/basketball/2014/conferencerpiHow the conference does in the NCAA tourney (which in large part is determined by RPI/SOS no matter how much people say it shouldn't matter) and not rankings (pretty much a popularity contest) will ultimately decide how the Big East is perceived nationally.

especially since SMU and Harvard already lost and both will be unranked next week.

I said this in the "Big East off to hot start" thread and I'll say it here:
Best to pump the brakes on any proclamations about how good/bad a team/conference is until a good distance into the season. The vast majority of high-major and mid-major teams are only just now playing their first quality opponents with the start of non-conference tournament season. In the other thread, the poster pointed out as of 11/20 the Big East would be a combined 22-1. But the only quality opponents were Marquette vs. Ohio State and Creighton vs. Oklahoma, so what am I supposed to do with that information?
Give it time to build up some data points. Pretty simple concept: we'll know a heck of a lot more about our team after the three Battle 4 Atlantis games, and with almost every major and mid-major playing each other in similar tournaments, same goes for conference writ large. And actually, even then I'd wait until Christmas to say much.

ACC - 5 B10 - 5 B12 - 4 PAC12 - 2 SEC - 2 Most likely because people realized sometime during the Clinton administration that preseason rankings are literally meaningless and are in no way an accurate indicator of the best teams - or conferences for that matter.
