Excuse me, but did you watch the same game we did? Hop and DSR were the only two Hoyas that showed up and played hard. Hopkins definitely did not quit on his teammates, and I am frankly amazed by your post. Watch the clip I referred to - yes, he came back and gave them some decent minutes late, but I can't remember seeing that body language from a GU player ever before...and at one point I attended 332 consecutive games. Holy cow....I think there is about a million things you could critique about Hop as a player but I have never doubted his effort and desire.
As someone pointed out in the game thread, I would give anything for Josh Smith to give the effort that Hop gives.

Hopkins's line score shows 32 minutes played, 4-8 from the field, 2-6 from the foul line (never a strength of his), 12 offensive rebounds out of the team's 20, 14 total rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocked shots and one turnover.
I guess all of those rebounds are indicative of the "quit" of which you speak.
As for body language reading, you are criticizing him for a reaction to what you yourself call a "somewhat wild drive." If he shrugged his shoulders, and I accept your representation that he did, I applaud his restraint under the circumstances.
Finally, I applaud you for attending 332 consecutive games. I mean, I've only been going to Hoya games since 1974, so I obviously don't have any frame of reference upon which to rely here by comparison.

Yes, I'm overreacting, but watch the clip and tell me that's GU bball. To me that typified a game where Hoyas were outworked at every turn.

I watched that dreck once. That was enough.
I will respectfully disagree with you here as to Hopkins "quitting", agree with you that we were outworked all game long, and move on.

Don't get me wrong - Hop was far from most culpable in today's debacle. I just couldn't believe that one play, and I suppose more importantly I couldn't believe he wasn't immediately benched accordingly, because that was before Smith fouled out. Those sorts of moments happen for every kid. Accepting them as a coach can't.

15:50 mark - that is not GU bball...ever. Just watched it again. Hop went up for the offensive board, got a hand on it but could not grab it. Shook his head at himself in frustration, took 2 steps while doing so and then started running back on D as the camera cut to the Johnnies on a pass up court. So you are dead wrong that he was reacting to DSR's shot. Or that he was not hustling because of those 2 steps.

Yup, makes sense to have that reaction to one play in a game where the kid was one of 2 players giving maximum effort the whole time he was in, especially from watching it on TV. Also makes sense that you would assess the situation more accurately than the coach who has spent countless hours with the kid over the past 4 years. SMH.

I would never doubt Hops heart. I doubt his hands. Our big men were always known for their soft hands. Sweetney especially. Hop on the other hand (no pun intended) seems to have a hard time corralling passes, holding onto the ball once he does get it, and not losing it or having it blocked when he goes to the hoop. Funny how he effectively uses those same hands to block shots.

Can we take a second and recognize that Hopkins had a 100% FG% last night! Congrats!
He's been doing a great job of limiting his bad decisions and taking good shots the last couple of games.
Keep it up and don't force it!

Why try the difficult shot? It worked because it's Zoubek Time!! Believe!

Keep it up and don't force it! I loved the little 4-footer he hit, rather than taking a dribble and trying to go up for a dunk. Yes! We've seen him hit jumpers from the elbow before. I don't understand why he constantly tries to shove his way to the rim where he's frankly not that good. If he takes some short, open jumpers, best case scenario, he hits them. Worst case scenario, at least it becomes a credible threat that the defense might have to think about for a second rather than just sitting back and waiting for him to put his shoulder down and barrel into the lane.
