With regard to the slander/defamation lawsuit - if Bad Bernie is forced to give a deposition, and if it becomes clear they have the goods on him - any chance he rats out Boeheim, since Magoo cut him loose and won't even talk to him now even though they still live across the street from each other? Yeah, I know, I am asking for Christmas, New Year's Eve and my birthday to all come at the same time - but wouldn't it be fun?! Dare to dream my friend...

The thing that bothers me the most because I live in enemy territory is the way SU fans react to all this. It's always that the NCAA is "picking on SU". I keep seeing/hearing "We aren't doing anything any worse than anybody else in Div. I", etc. If someone actually does speak out and say anything bad about how things are run, they are shot down immediately. I am hoping for the death penalty so I don't have to listen to SU basketball fans anymore! Let's shut it down!

I think you left out Mardi Gras. I doubt that Bernie Fine will "rat out" Jim Boeheim; I would have expected Fine to open his mouth up long ago, once it had been established that he was clear vis-a-vis the statute of limitations. I can't imagine that they'll get to depositions here, though. I expect Syracuse to get this case settled fast, subject to confidentiality provisions, so that none of this sees the light of day. As a private institution, SU can settle this without any further disclosures. They are being embarrassed enough with the NCAA investigations of the basketball and football programs; they will try to minimize the fallout as much as possible. While that may well be the logical thing for SU to do, we all know that in the mind of the non-Upstate New York public, settlement is an admission that Davis and Lang were not lying - and highlights the question of how much Boeheim knew, or should have known.

Lucky for them, most people don't give a crap. Which coach consistently gets the most talented recruiting in the country year after year and drags his stink with him? Not to mention, it's interesting timing. The season is about to start. People are excited to watch games. If this were happening in April, for instance, it might have a little more weight in the public opinion but, then again, I keep going back to Cal in my mind. Nobody seems to really care. I do for my own reasons and not just because I hate Cuse. Just like I hope UNC gets absolutely crushed by penalties. But I don't remotely believe they will. Roy Williams' comments were borderline hilarious in the saddest sense. If I was a recruit holding an offer from Cuse or UNC, I'd decline them immediately. Why even risk being associated with schools like that when there are equally prestigious/successful schools and programs? But I haven't read about any recruits turning down offers or re-opening their recruitment. I don't know if that's me being overly Pollyanna or if it actually is really sad. I feel like it's the latter.

Just wondering, as Lower Canada Community College prepares for the NCAA hearings on Thursday and Friday. . .since Big John and JT3 have the deflated basketball on the coach's desk as a reminder that there is life after basketball. . .what does Boeheim have on his desk? A McDonald's uniform, size XXXL? Business cards for Laurie Fine, career counselor? College applications for Onandaga Community College to pick up those missing credits?
Consider this teed-up for your thoughts.

The comments posted beneath the articles linked by DanMcQ on these stories reflect just how concerned the SU community is with the looming loss of scholarships and post-season tournament bans as a result of the NCAA investigation. They appear ready to throw Boeheim under the bus, especially if that will ameliorate any penalty imposition. They also appear split, if Boeheim is suspended or retires, as to whether Hopkins is or should be the replacement.
Ah, the angst in Orange Nation. What a shame.

I'm not sure what I'm more excited for. The start of bball season or the wrecking ball about to be dropped on the Cuse program. Then again, I'll have to hear all the whining around here. Let's go Hoyas!!

It really is something akin to Christmas Eve, knowing that I can wake tomorrow to the wonder that will be Syracuse's day(s) of reckoning...
Half expect to see the Yule Log on TV tonight.

Love the stressing of no current players. What it fails to mention is that all of the staff was in place during the period of these violations.

The indignance on the part of Williams is hilarious and a stunning display of arrogance. There's zero chance he didn't know what was going on.

Guess I'm different but I take no joy in seeing Syracuse under investigation.

May each of the coming days be like our own little Advent calendar of bad news for those Orange clad cretins...

Guess I'm different but I take no joy in seeing Syracuse under investigation. You are a good man Ed - but if you lived in upstate NY among the arrogant, expletive-spewing, banana-throwing troglodytes, I believe you would feel differently. Their sense of entitlement and indignation just heightens the sweetness that accompanies anything that darkens and agonizes their fandom even a little.
